Matthew, I found your speech about your "mood being thrown off" demeaning to
everyone on this list. As an admin you have a responsibility to keep the
peace and that's it. Don't abuse this responsibility. If someone or
something is banned then say so and be done with it. Going on about how it
affects you implies that your well-being is important to the list. It's not.
This is a Mailing List and nothing more. Remember that the subscribers of
this list are *people*. Respect them as such and they will be much more
likely to respect your authority.
All true. Please remember, though, that your friendly admins are people as well.
While we try our best to always present ourselves as the professional, erudite,
and spectacularly humble living legends that the list has come to expect, the
unfortunate truth is that we have our bad days like everyone else. Remember also
that the only compensation we receive for our moderation duties is the same that
everyone else receives -- a list free of off-topic chatter from which we can get
useful and relevant comments on our fanfics.
In Matt's case, I would hazard to guess that his comments were meant at least
somewhat tongue-in-cheek. The problem with simply saying "This thread is banned"
is that it gets rather tedious after the fiftieth time or so, for us as well as
for those of you out there.
Now, let me be the third admin to ask that people stop posting in this thread.
(This means you, Mr. Preston.) This discussion isn't helping TPoH or any other
fic get done faster or better. And please, if you have a problem with the list
admins, at least *try* taking it to ffml-admins@fanfic.com first.
