I'm not exactly sure what the protocol in the community is for this, but I
used this title for one of my earlier works (oddly enough, a Ranma work).
Since this is the not the first time I've seen this happen, I'm asking the
list what usually happens in these cases.
It's been a grey area in my experience. Much better to simply avoid
titles that are likely to get reused. Which is theoretically
impossible, granted, but the more connected your story's title and the
story's theme itself are, the less likely someone else will write a
story with the same title (unless they're basically rewriting your
story - which is plagarism if they do it knowingly, and a sign that one
may need to add more layers to one's story if they do it unknowingly).
"Here We Go Again" can, for instance, apply to any story where the
events of Ranma 1/2 repeat themselves. Given how popular retellings
(with slight alterations) of Ranma are anyway...
But, now that it has happened, perhaps your best course is to contact
the author directly and advise that the author use a different title,
to avoid confusion between your works.
Exactly.
Which is why I asked for suggestions for a better title in the end-notes.
Doesn't anybody read them?
Last time I posted something people complained that it took forever
to get to the actual fic, I move things to the end and see what happens!!
