NOTES

This fic takes place during the battle between the

Peacemillion and Battleship Libra in the Gundam Wing

universe. It's before the Peacemillion crashes into

Libra, and just after Sandrock was outfitted with

the Zero system. Other than that I've left it pretty

ambiguous. As for the Macross Plus bit, it takes

place about 5 years after the Ghost X-9 incident,

about 7 years after Macross 7 was launched. As to

how they meet...well, you'll just have to see. -_^

And, as always, any C&C is much appreciated!

Arigatou!!

CHAPTER THE FIRST: WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE

     The battle seemed endless.

Lucrezia Noin had no idea why she was out here,

in her custom Taurus, so close to the devastating

battle between the five Gundams and her former

commander, Zechs Merquise aka Milliardo Peacecraft.

Battleship Libra, huge and deadly, hung like a

titanium flower against the inky fabric of space.

Noin knew that onboard that battleship was Zechs'

sister, Relena Peacecraft, held prisoner now by

the White Fang. Would a rescue be possible?

An explosion near her caused her Taurus to shake.

She kicked in the jets to rise above the battle to

see what had happened. A Mobile Doll, one of the

White Fang's automated mobile suits, had tried to

sneak up on her from behind. Luckily, Gundam 04,

or Sandrock as Quatre had called him, had been

there to cleave the Doll in half with one of his

heat shotels.

     "You all right, Miss Noin?"

     "Yeah...thanks, Quatre. How's it going?"

There was a pause. Sandrock had been refitted

with the infamous Zero system, and Quatre was

probably accessing it to assess their current

tactical situation.

"Okay. We're holding our own but there are a

lot of Virgos. I think Trowa might run out of ammo

soon."

     "And Heero?"

"I don't know. Since we haven't seen Epyon yet,

I don't know if he'll show."

Noin was almost afraid of that. The power of

the Wing Zero and the Epyon clashing in battle right

in front of them might destroy them all.

A Mobile Doll blew up right next to her. She

whipped around. Gundam 02, revamped and called

Deathscythe Hell, cut a firey swath through the

unmanned suits, it's active sheild extended like

demonic wings as it's double-beam scythe cleaved

Doll after Doll in twain. Gundam 03, Heavyarms,

sprayed down the scarce fighter power Libra had sent,

and Gundam 05, Altron, tore out power cores and

crushed heads with its extendable dragon-head arms.

She brought her energy cannon to bear on a Mobile

Doll's aft quarter and started shooting. They

had to win this battle. They *had* to.

Dorothy Catalonia couldn't be happier. The

battle was going beautifully. Mr. Milliardo had

talked about introducing her to the Mobile Doll's

control system, using the unique control system

of the Epyon. She did adore that mobile suit. It

was the perfect weapon for bringing the ultimate

battle before her scrutiny. And now, the Libra

scientists were adapting its delicious Zero system

to the Mobile Doll's control matrix.

     "Miss Catalonia?"

She turned, her long blonde hair whipping behind

her. The officer was standing next to a security

console behind Mr. Milliadro's command chair.

     "Yes? What is it?"

"I've registered an intruder alert. Miss Relena

has been freed and is heading for the hangar."

"Oh indeed?" Dorothy turned to the chair. "Did

you hear that, Mr. Milliardo?"

"Yes." Milliardo Peacecraft's eyes narrowed at

the screen. Relena... who had come to free her?

Heero? No, he'd have seen the Wing Zero. He'd

have felt it. No, it was someone else.

"Burst communication from a Taurus suit in the

hangar! It was to the Peacemillion!"

"The Wing Zero might come out to meet them!"

Dorothy cried, clapping her gloved hands. "Oh, what

a sight to see you and the Wing Zero locked in combat,

Mr. Milliardo!"

"He won't come. He's not that stupid."

Dorothy's mind raced. She so badly wanted to

see this battle! Heero cared for Miss Relena, that

was obvious, and so did Mr. Milliardo, so he wouldn't

take action that might harm her.

Dorothy Catalonia, on the other hand, had no

such restrictions. She ran from the bridge, smiling

all the way. She knew a couple of the White Fang's

converted Virgo II suits had the capability to be

manned. It was to one of those suits that she ran to.

She hopped into a flight suit and strapped herself

in. As the cockpit closed, Mr. Milliardo's face

appeared on her screen.

     "Dorothy. What are you doing?"

"I'm going to make Heero come running, Mr.

Milliardo. Then you can kill him and come back here

to destroy the Earth, just like you promised!"

Giggling, Dorothy cut the communication link and

started up the Virgo. It wasn't long before she was

free of the Libra and headed after the slightly

lavendar-colored Taurus bearing Miss Relena and her

mysterious rescuer. A cruel smile crossed her face

as she levelled the Virgo's energy cannon at the

Taurus.

"Attention, rogue Taurus. This is Dorothy

Catalonia, deputy leader of the White Fang.

Surrender now or I'll destroy you...Miss Relena."

Dorothy knew full well she was broadcasting on

a general frequency. That was, of course, part of

the plan. She savored the tense silence that

followed...

Ah. From the Peacemillion came a new glimmer

that was moving towards her at high speed. The

scanners confirmed it as the Wing Zero. And the

clamour from the Libra was undoubtedly Mr. Milliardo

mounting up the Epyon. Any moment now, the great

battle would unfold...

     "Heero!"

The Wing Zero was already gone. Sally Po bit off

a curse and spun around, glaring at what was left in

the Peacemillion. The only mobile suit not in combat

was a Space Leo that had been used to help building

the ship. Sighing, she headed off for it.

     "Sally!"

Turning as she zipped up her flight suit, she

saw Howard heading towards her.

"What is it, Howard? I gotta talk some sense

into Heero before he gets himself or anyone else

killed."

"But, Sally, a huge mobile suit force is headed

for the Libra! They're being led by a suit that looks

a hell of a lot like the Tallgeese!"

"The Tallgeese's pilot is about to eviscerate

Heero, and possibly his own sister, with the beam

sword that cut Barge in half. I'm not gonna sit here

and let it happen. Now get outta my way!"

Unstoppable, Sally strapped into the Leo and was

off. Howard sighed and shook his head.

"Man... this whole scene is turning real ugly

real fast..."

The klaxon was just a hair louder to him than the

usual alarm. So he just did when he heard the usual

alarm... he rolled over and tried to go back to sleep.

"Scramble, scramble!" came Lucy's voice. "All

pilots to your fighters! Skull Squadron to launch

bay immediately!"

Isamu Dyson groaned. Then a nose nuzzled his

neck and he heard a more melodious voice in his ear.

"That's your cue, Isamu-chan," Myung whispered.

"Man...can't those aliens leave us alone?" He

got up out of bed and hopped into his flight suit as

best he could. Myung rolled over on one elbow and

smiled at him.

"If they did, love, you'd be out of a job."

"Hai, I guess you're right. Well... guess I

better get to it." He looked over his shoulder at

his fiancee and smiled.

"I'll keep my promise... I love you."

"I love you too," Myung replied. "Hurry back."

He nodded, then turned to the door and ran out

into the corridor. Skull 5, a rookie he still didn't

recognize, tossed him his helmet. Nodding his thanks,

Isamu ran to the launch bay where the techs where

leading his fighter to a launch tube. It was the

same fighter he'd flown at New Edwards. The only

real difference was the little extra dashes of paint

to the fighter's nose... an feild of black forward

of the cockpit with a skull and crossbones that was

nearly identical to the old Skull 1 aboard the SDF-1

Macross.

Formerly Eagle One, now Skull One...

"You'll always be #1 to me, babe," Isamu said, patting

the nose of his fighter as he climbed in. He watched

the systems of the 19 boot up as he strapped himself

in. As he launched, he took stock of the new Skull

Squadron. 5 Thunderbolts and one other VF-19...

a custom model. It was the same color scheme as the

prototype, but instead of a skull and crossbones, a

white cross was painted in the black feild forward

of the cockpit. This fighter didn't carry

the usual gun pod either...in fact, from here, Isamu

couldn't see the fighter's distinctive weapon.

"Okay, boys," said Isamu into the comm, "you know

the drill. Take out the Gold suits first, and try

to avoid fighting near the civilian ships. Get to

it."

Skull Squadron responded, the VF-11's kicking in

their FAST packs to take the fight to their enemies.

The aliens were mostly silvery mecha that were

slightly reminiscent of Zentraedi armor, with

backwards articulated legs and bulbous bodies.

However, these things had crab-like pincers that

carried deadly energy weapons within them. The

golden suits were a bit more humanoid, reminding

Isamu of the old Zentraedi female battle armor,

albeit a bit bulkier; these suits didn't have the

inherant grace of the Zentraedi. They were more

straightforward in their tactics.

Isamu looked down at his main console. Three

Gold suits leading a contingent of two dozen

Silvers. He grinned... no problem. He kicked up

the throttle and headed into the fray. The other

19 in Skull Squadron was just ahead of him, firing

off a spread of missiles, clearing the path between

him and the nearest Gold. There was a pause in its

movements, then the 19 burst into Soldier mode.

The head of his mecha had been modified to resemble

a knight's helmet, and instead of the usual GU-15

gun pod, this sucker carried a gleaming sword.

"See if you can take this one alive, Battou,"

Isamu said to the other 19's pilot.

"Roger," came the stoic reply, and the sword

came down to cleave off the arm of the Gold holding

the energy cannon. The blade of the sword had been

honed to an edge only a molecule wide, and Isamu

had seen it cutting whole mecha in half. Now,

the pilot reversed his stroke and cut the legs

off the Gold suit. It floated there for a moment,

then began to glow white-hot.

     "Damn! Get outta there, Battou!"

But Battou was already in jet mode and

rocketing away. The Gold suit self-detonated,

leaving a globe of white-hot fire and debris

where the mecha used to be. The other 19, called

the Crusader, made a wide circuit of the battle

and three Silvers got on his tail. The pilot

didn't panic, instead veering off before the

fight got too close to the Boardwalk, the resort

ship that was part of the New Macross 10's

colony fleet.

Isamu realised he had problems of his own

as one of the Gold suits sped towards him. He

jinked hard to port and launched a few short-

range missiles from the launchers in the legs

of Skull One. The Gold raised it's sheild-bearing

left arm to take the brunt of the sudden assault.

As it did, Isamu shifted to Gerwalk mode and

leveled his gun pod at the Gold, which did the

same with the energy cannon in it's right three-

fingered hand.

"Stand-off," Isamu growled as the battle

raged around him. Before either of them could

move, the Crusader appeared behing the Gold and

took his gun-arm. The other 19 spun and drove

his sword through the center of the Gold, the

most likely place where the power core would be.

Unfortuately, he didn't spike the self-destruct

system, and the Gold started glowing. The 19s

bolted before it blew.

"Sorry, sir," Battou said. "Thought I

could pin him down before he did that."

"Don't sweat it," Isamu replied. "Plenty

of baddies left to take care of."

They both went to jet mode, headed for

the source of the alien suits. It was an ovoid

ship with several bulges on its hull that either

housed weapons or were the hangars for the enemy

mecha. As they approached it, something very odd

began to happen. The thing began to hinge open,

like the jaw of some huge beast. Fire streamed

from the nose of the Crusader as Battou used the

gatling guns there to clear a path to the ship.

Isamu cleaned up some himself, then saw the weird

light coming from within the alien cap ship.

"You see that?" he asked Battou.

     "Yep. Doc?"

"I am working on it," came the reply from the

scientific vessel of the Macross 10's fleet. Isamu

turned to see the Von Braun moving to a point where

they could better monitor the battle. Doctor Jijin,

the man behind the Crusader's design, frowned

audibly. "I cannot verify these readings, Battou..."

     "Spit it out, Doc."

"They are setting up a... well... some sort of

spatial-temporal cataclysm."

"What does that mean?" Isamu asked.

"It means we get the hell out of Dodge. Now."

To punctuate his statement, Battou spun the

Crusader and punched his throttle to full. Isamu did

the same. Isamu saw the sleek dome of the New Macross

10, towed by the formidable battle section, being

moved out of the path of the thing's attack. And

just in time. An alabaster ball of... something...

belched forth from the alien ship. So powerful

was the exit of this sphere of energy that the

alien ship was destroyed. It spun towards the

fleet which scattered before it. As Skull One

and the Crusader approached it, it exploded in

a glittering field of light that blinded Isamu

and Battou for a long moment...

The sensor reading sped across the monitor.

Duo Maxwell glanced at it before he cut down two

more Mobile Dolls.

     "Temporal disturbance? What the...?"

"Attention, rogue Taurus," came the voice.

Whoever it was had balls, broadcasting on an

open channel like this. "This is Dorothy

Catalonia, deputy leader of the White Fang.

Surrender now or I'll destroy you... Miss Relena."

Damn! Duo heard the clamor over his line

to the Peacemillion as Heero made for Wing Zero.

He turned towards the source of the communication.

     "Duo?"

     His eyes opened wide. "Hilde...?"

"Duo, we're in trouble, this crazy woman's

going to kill us! You need this data, and I

rescued Relena Peacecraft!"

"Is Relena all right?" asked Quatre, obviously

agitated.

"Well, she wouldn't come willingly so I

kinda knocked her out..."

"Heero's not gonna like that," Duo said.

"You moron... why the hell did you go and put

yourself in harm's way, Hilde? You're gonna

get yourself killed!"

     "I had to, Duo..."

At that moment, Wing Zero shot past the

other Gundams. Duo cursed and kicked Deathscythe

into high gear.

Zechs Merquise's nail blue eyes narrowed. Epyon

seemed... confused. Like this wasn't supposed to

happen. He gently pushed up the monitor visor of

his helmet and peered at the screens with his naked

eyes. This disturbance, the one throwing off Epyon's

systems, was growing. And it was centering on the

area containing Dorothy, his sister, and now all 5

Gundam pilots. A white Taurus and a Space Leo were

also en route.

     "Hmm. Interesting..."

Klaxons went off in Zechs' ears. Wincing, he

turned to the monitor in question. It was a

*temporal* disturbance? His blonde brows furrowed.

Epyon began to shudder... and it felt as if the

temperature in the cockpit dropped to almost freezing.

"Are you... afraid, Epyon?" Zechs asked, his

breath slightly fogging the visor of the helmet.

The question wnet unanswered as Wing Zero

came ever closer...

"Relena-sama!" cried Noin. And Epyon was

speeding in that direction as well! "Quatre, we

have to do something!"

"Right! Everyone follow me!" Sandrock Kai

made for the battlezone. Firing behind him as he

flew, Heavyarms Kai fell in behind them, and Altron

approached from the opposite side. Noin keyed up

her forward display. The White Fang Taurus had

turned to face the Virgo II that was levelling the

beam cannon at it. Wing Zero sped past the other

Gundams, and Noin's Taurus, towards the zone and

was in direct opposition to the approaching Epyon.

Deathscythe Hell was already there, behind the other

Taurus like a guardian angel... or demon. They were

all, now, within a distance of just over a kilometer.

That's when the sensors went nuts... and Noin

felt something hit her hard enough to knock her into

the quiet void of unconsciousness...

~ * * * * * * * ~

At the edge of the battlefield lurked a dangerous

foe. He watched the humans' transforming mecha

destroy his front-line troops and narrowed his eyes.

At the back of his mind was the nagging question of

why he and the rest of the royal family had evolved

to assume the humans' wretched forms. He shooks his

head and tightened his grip on the controls of his

customized Leader suit.

His escort of six silvery Soldiers recoiled in

fear when the Ep-Ruud exploded. Named after the

Zarritzen god of Time and Space, the ship had been

designed to shift the human military to another

universe. But something had gone wrong aboard the

Ep-Ruud and he had heard something about 'inversion.'

"I'd have all their heads if they weren't already

dead," he growled.

"Patience, brother Arritzo," came the soft voice

from the other customized Leader. "This may yet work

to our advantage."

"Always the optimism and compassion, eh, sister

Lysstza?" Arritzo allowed himself a smile, and the

sensation was odd but pleasing. The human face would

take time to get used to. "That may be your undoing."

     "We shall see..."

     "My Prince!"

The gutteral cry from one of the Soldiers cut off

the Princess' reply. The brightness from the

Ep-Ruud's explosion and that of it's attack were

receeding, and in its place were...

     Arritzo narrowed his gray eyes.

     "What in the four Hells...?"

He counted again. Ten. Ten new mecha, looking

out of place and somewhat confused. He was fully

prepared to renew the assault when all of the Soliders

screamed all at once. He winced.

     "WHAT?" he bellowed.

     "It...it's...it is Ip-yonn!"

The Prince increased his magnification. There

was a dark crimson mecha...the color of Zarritzen

blood...with green eyes...wings...a vicious whip...

It did indeed resemble Ip-yonn, the god of Death

and Despair. But it was simply a representation.

Arritzo knew this.

"Run! Run if you value your existence!"

The Soldiers, on the other claw, were too

simple.

"Damn it, get back here you cowards!"

The Prince leveled his cannon at one of the

fleeing suits and holed it. The other customized

Gold got in his way as the Soldier exploded.

"Brother, let them go! We are outnumbered

as it is! It would be better to return with

the new Shifter mecha and renew our assault..."

"Be quiet, female!" he snapped. He would

have to learn the human's language so he had

better derogatory things to call her. He hated

how she always made sense! But...he didn't hate

*her*...far from it...

Growling, he activated his thrusters. Before

he turned to run away, however, he targeted one

of the new suits and fired a round from his

long-range weapon, a rail cannon. He holstered

the weapon and sped off.

Lysstza, for her part, let out a sigh of

relief, then marvelled at the new sound she could

make. Her new form was beautiful, no matter how

much her parents and brother would call the humans

"ugly" and "disgusting". But there would be more

time for that later. For now, they had to escape,

before the newcomers could join in the assault...

~ * * * * * * * ~

As Isamu and Battou wondered what to do

about these strange new mecha, one of them was

holed by a slug fired from out of their range.

Cursing, Battou kicked the Crusader into high gear

and purused the fleeing mecha. The dark one

held the damaged mecha and the scrambled comm

channels made noise in Isamu's ear.

"Macross 10, this is Skull One. Get the

S.A.R. crew out here, and several tugs, we have

to retreive these newcomers."

"Roger that," came the reply. Within

moments, the Search-And-Rescue team were en

route along with several small vehicles. Isamu

sighed, and knew he'd get a chewing out for

this...

Fifteen minutes later, Isamu Dyson stood

on the deck with the pilots of the new mecha.

Much to his surprise, they spoke Japanese. Even

more surprising was that five of the pilots were

no older than 15 or 16 years old.

"My name is Quatre Raberba Winner," the

young blonde one said with a smile. "My friends

have kind of elected me to speak for them. We're

all Gundam pilots."

"So you call 'em Gundams, huh?" Isamu replied.

"I'm Captain Isamu Alva Dyson, leader of Skull

Squadron and junior C.O. of the fighter wings

here on the Macross 10."

"This ship is amazing!" Quatre said, blue eyes

sparkling. "I saw it as we were getting towed in...

how many civilians do you have living under that

dome?"

Isamu chuckled a bit. This kid really was

charming. The one closest to him, with the long

spikes of hair obscuring half his face, seemed

stoic. As did the one still by the feet of the

suit bearing the huge double gun. The one

with the short dark hair just looked pissed.

And the American-looking boy was looking over

his shoulder in concern as they wheeled off

the wounded pilot of the suit crippled by the long-

range shot.

"We can talk about that later," said one

of the women, the blue-haired one. "Captain,

we're sorry that this happened... we don't

know why."

"Our scientists said something about a

temporal disturbance," Isamu tried.

"Our sensors picked that up as well," said

the woman with the braided hair. "We were in

the middle of a battle one moment, and the

next floating here...where exactly are we?"

"About a dozen parsecs from Earth, following

a vector about 65 degrees off that of the

Macross-7."

"Tell us about the battle," said the tall

man with the blonde hair. He was the only mature

male of the group, Isamu noted.

     "That is classified information," barked

a voice. Isamu rolled his eyes.

"Kuso...just what I needed," he murmured.

The figure striding towards the group was

followed by several uniformed advisors. The

short man smiled.

"I am Ishi Iyoku, mayor of the Macross 10.

I'm afraid we can't tell you about our problem

unless you agree to join us."

"They're in no condition to agree to

anything," snapped Isamu, "they just got here!"

"I suggest you control your temper, captain,"

Iyoku said icily. "You wouldn't want me to

report your brash behavior to General Millard or

Commander-General Kibasen, would you?"

Isamu swallowed back his bile best he could.

Crusty ol' Millard might cut him some slack...as

commander of the Macross-10's military and the

Battle Section, he knew what a prick the mayor

could be (and was, half the time). Kibasen, on

the other hand...

"Excuse me," Quatre spoke up. "But Captain

Isamu is right. We have no idea where we are or

how we got here, and we shouldn't agree to anything

until we find those things out."

"I agree with Quatre," the spikey-haired one

said without changing his expression. "We have no

reason to risk our lives without knowing why."

"You're one to talk," said the other stoic

pilot as he approached. "You're the suicidal one."

"Now isn't the time, Heero..." Quatre sighed.

"'Scuse me," said the one with the braid.

Isamu noted his Japanese was like his own...tainted

with American inflection. "Where are they taking

Hilde?"

"Oh. Medbay 3. Follow the signs."

"Thanks." Without saying a word to his

compatriots, he ran off. Quatre watched him with

concern, as did the woman with the weird eyebrows.

Although she seemed more confused than anything else.

Isamu noticed she was also watching them cart off

more wounded. Janitors were already mopping up

blood.

"Are you giving my fiancee a hard time?"

came a sweet voice that made Isamu smile. Myung

walked towards Iyoku, looking mighty pissed.

She glanced at him and winked. Iyoku stammered.

     "Ahhh..um...Ms. Long, I..."

"Look, these kids are tired, confused, and

probably pretty hungry. Let's get 'em something

to eat and worry about the rest later, ne?" She

smiled at the pilots. "You'll have to forgive

Mr. Iyoku, our Mayor is a bit pissy this morning

because he didn't get his grits."

Isamu busted out laughing as Iyoku turned

bright red and stormed off. Quatre smiled at

Myung.

"You're right, Ms. Long, I'm very hungry."

"I don't think any of us have eaten all day,"

said the blue-haired woman.

"Great!" Myung replied. "I'll get it set up!"

Isamu's attention was grabbed by one of his

Skull pilots and he went to work. But even as he

plunged his arms, tools in hand, into a VF-11, he

couldn't help but wonder about those kids...

"So what do you make of all this?" Sally asked.

The food was good, but Quatre, hungry as he was,

was having a hard timee eating with everything

going on in his mind.

"I'm...not quite sure," the young Arab replied.

"Capt. Dyson seems sincere enough..."

"So did Treize when I saw him," Heero said. He

had only eaten half his food. Wufei refused to touch

his and growled at the mention of Treize's name.

"Yes, but I detected no duplicity from Capt.

Dyson," Quatre replied.

"The enemy fled at the sight of our suits,"

Zechs said. He put down his fork. "It's no wonder

that they want us, if only for psychological warfare."

"Do we know who or what they're fighting?" Noin

asked Quatre, who shook his head. "And what about

Miss Relena?"

"I talked to one of the medical staff," Trowa

replied. "Relena will be fine. The pilot of the

Taurus, on the other hand, may not last the evening."

"Poor Duo..." was all Quatre could say.

As the silence prevailed over the small dining

hall, Zechs Merquise wondered absently what became

of Dorothy...

Duo hadn't done this in a long time. He'd found

the rosary in one of his pockets under the flight

suit Howard had given him, and all the other pilots,

back on the Peacemillion. He held it now, tightly,

kneeling at Hilde's bedside as the biomonitors

chimed out her vital signs. She'd stopped bleeding,

but blood still stained her bandages and the sheets.

The shrapnel from the nickel-ferrous slug had torn

her apart. If she hadn't thrown herself over Relena

to protect her...

Duo blinked back tears and kept his eyes closed,

praying silently. Across the room he heard Relena

mumble in her sleep. He knew his fellow Gundam pilots

were probably discussing their next move. But

Shinigami could care less. With all the work he

had done... why would they take Hilde away from him?

"Please," he pleaded with the empty air.

"Please don't take Hilde..."
