Title: One War Three Sisters Sidestory: Voice of the Phoenix

Series: Ranma (X-com, Starcraft)

Genre: Drama

Author: Kevin D. Hammel

Summary:

An authorized sidestory for Adam Brown's "One War, Three

Sisters". Details the 'creation' of the hybrid Protoss-Human warrior

Phoenix> It is told from the perspective of the Protoss Healer who

'made' her from the wreckage of the human formerly known as Tendou

Akane.

Anyway, the first thing I _really_ wondered about here was why I couldn't

build Protoss Healers. Heh. That said...

Well, the first reaction a Protoss _anything_ would have to a warrior in

Akane's condition would be to stick her into a Dragoon. This would probably

_not_ be a palatable option given the psychological condition, but I imagine

there are ways (an Arbiter's stasis-generator or even a converted Ghost

lockdown canister rifle) to get around a rampaging Dragoon.

Then again, this means flying in the face of the story itself. Que sera.

Second, I have to wonder what point in Protoss history the story is catching

them. Correct me if I'm misremembering the manual, but I seem to remember a

period of ideological conflict in the Protoss over whether or not they were

a superior race and, perhaps, the only creation that should exist. Halos

seems to be a throwback to that era - again, forgive the confusion, but the

manual's at home and I'm an hour's drive away. And I have no car. Ah heh.

Even if it's _all_ they retain, a fallen Protoss warrior keeps their mind

and will within the confines of a Dragoon; admittedly, this steps outside

that racial boundary, but given the importance of dedication to the Khala...

well. But then, I'm working off of remembered knowledge, and you actually

_wrote_ the story. So.

Akane's "I... hate... ALIENS!" line is classic, I have to admit. And the

story paints a wonderful picture of the slow dissection of the soul, and,

with the exception of a few spelling errors in convenient places, ("Toady"

instead of "today" _really_ threw me) the story itself is handled very well,

given the personalities of the characters involved.

*****

Mea culpa, yo - looked in the wrong section of the site for this - but I

think the "archived-at" field is for pointing out the exact location of your

story. I might be wrong. And I still have no idea why this didn't show when

I looked up "phoenix" at the archives...
