Episode One:
The Schools United!
Part A
The gymnasium of Furinkan High filled to the brim
with students, gossip, and rumours. The school day
was nearly spent.
The students wanted to return home, but a last
minute announcement from Headmaster Kuno asked
politely for the teachers and learners to gather
together in the gym.
The people politely complied with Kuno and filed
into ordered lines spreading the entire floor length
from the stage the headmaster stood upon, which was
at the front of the giant room.
Apparently, the headmaster had something to say,
"Aloha, little kikki's! It's only been a day into
the new school year and already I got some good news
for you all!"
"Great, I wonder what he's up to now?" asked Ranma
Saotome, heir to the Saotome School of
Indiscriminate Grappling. He stood at the front of
his class, which stood near the back of the gym. He
stood with his arms cushioning his neck, his hands
behind his back.
"Whatever it is, I hope it's not another dumb
coconut hunt like last year!" replied Ranma's
fiance Akane Tendo, who was standing behind him.
She was heir to the Tendo School of Indiscriminate
Grappling. "I mean, did he actually think we would
actually like a bowl cut? Honestly!"
"Don't forget about his stupid buzz cut idea
either!" Ranma added.
Although both students were whispering and stood the
entire room length away from him, the headmaster
overheard their (inconsiderate) conversation, "No
need to worry little wahini, the Big Kahuna has some
news almost as good!"
After pressing a remote control button he was
holding, a giant white cloth cascaded down the wall
behind him. "Behold little kikki's, the school of
the future!"
The students beheld the giant photo, which was
imprinted on the cloth clinging to the gym wall. It
was a scaled down model of a magnificent building.
Then the students gasped, they noticed where the
school was located.
"Now way! Is that building...floating in the air?"
Ranma asked. His face showed shock, mirroring every
one of the other faces in the gym.
"It's not just any building! It's the united high
school of Furinkan and Tomobiki!" said a man, who
was entering the gymnasium, making his way towards
the stage. "Hello students, tomorrow I am your new
vice principal. As of today though, I am the
principal of Tomobiki High, Principal..."
Headmaster Kuno frowned at the interruption, but
quickly regained his composure. "Aloha and
congratulations Vice Principal! Have a coconut!"
"Thank you very much!" After catching Kuno's
coconut, the vice principal almost frowned at the
students moving, running away from him. "Is
something the matter?"
The explosion caught him by surprise.
"Ha! On the big island, that's how we say hello!"
said Headmaster Kuno, who jumped off the stage with
two razors in his hands. "Now, who wants the buzz
cut and the bowl cut for their real first day at
school tomorrow?"
Unfortunately, he asked only thin air. The students
already left the gym when the explosion occurred.
"Little kikki's?""
After running out of the gym, the student body
gathered on the school field. Many looked up and
some began pointing.
"Ranma-honey, is that it?" Ukyou Kuoniji, Ranma's
second fiance, enquired of a small object in the
sky. She had found him, much to Akane's annoyance,
near Akane, much to her own annoyance.
"Probably, it looks like a building from here..." he
answered. "I wonder what it looks like up close?
It's probably a lot bigger, but I wonder how much
bigger?"
"Huh, what do you mean?"
"Two different schools are being merged together."
replied Akane. "Or at least that's what Principal
Kuno said."
"Humph, didn't he say the other school was
Tomobiki?" Receiving nods from Ranma and Akane,
Ukyou thought aloud, "I remember hearing something
about that school, Tomobiki...Wasn't it in the news
recently?"
"When -isn't- it in the news?" someone feminine
asked, surprising the trio of Ranma, Akane, and
Ukyou. The three turned about.
The lady was Nabiki Tendo, an elder sister of Akane.
Looking at Akane, Nabiki smiled, "Now, before you
ask little sister, you should remember I was offered
a teaching position immediately after I graduated
last year."
"I didn't know it was for Furinkan! And you said it
wasn't close to Nerima!"
"I'm not teaching for -Furinkan-, silly. I'm
teaching for Furinkan and Tomobiki United High!"
Nabiki pointed towards the floating school. "And
besides, do you call that close?"
"I guess not..."
"Anyway, Ranma and Akane, Kasumi sent me here to
make sure you two head straight home...And to make
sure you two aren't, you know..." Nabiki winked at
the two.
"Ranma would -never- do that with her!" Ukyou pulled
Ranma towards herself. "Right Ran-chan?" she asked,
looping her right arm around Ranma's left.
"What wouldn't I do with her?" Taking a moment to
think, Ranma realised what he wouldn't do. "Oh jeez,
of course I wouldn't do -that- with her!"
It was difficult to look angry due to the subject
matter. Akane did not know how to react, which
annoyed her, so mentally she began counting.
"Ranma's a perfect gentleman, and besides, he'd only
do that with me, when we're married!" Ukyou giggled,
as thoughts and dreams of matrimonial bliss pushed
her out of reality.
~The front door opens, and a matured Ranma, who has
grown a noticeable moustache steps into the
okonomiyaki store. "Honey, children, I'm home!" he
says, drawling out the word home. Three children,
two boys with pigtails identical to Ranma's and a
girl with bow in her hair identical to Ukyou's run
to him. Ukyou steps from behind the restaurant
counter polishing a small spatula. She gently,
jokingly chides the children, "Oh you three little
devils! Save some of your old daddy's energy for me
later!" Ranma jokingly responds, "Oh Ucchan, don't
you worry about a thing! I'll show you how well I do
it later!" Everyone happily laughs.~
"Uh, Ukyou, you aren't his only fiance, you know!"
Akane said, annoyed, jealous, and denying her own
claim, all at once.
Ukyou only giggled in response.
"Well, it seems she's gone for the moment." Nabiki
said, leaving the two, and if Ukyou was still a part
of reality, three behind. "Bye, I need to speak with
someone about something...So I'll see you guys
later."
Taking his arm out of Ukyou's hold, Ranma waved with
Akane to Nabiki. When Akane's elder sister was out
of sight, Ranma looked at Akane. "We going, or
what?"
Ukyou giggled.
Ranma looked at Akane. The two shrugged.
The street was free of cars and the sidewalk
uncluttered with people. If not for a building
floating high in the sky near the atmosphere, the
sky would also have been clear.
"Ranma," Akane began to ask, "What do you think this
new school's going to be like?" She looked at her
fianc, who was walking on a narrow fence, matching
her step for step.
"I don't know, I guess probably like every other
school I've been to." He yawned. "I just hope we're
not in Kuno's class!"
Akane stayed silent for a second, her thoughts
revolving around the horror of being in Kuno's
class. "I wonder how that stupid jerk got a teaching
job anyway?"
"His father's the principal, remember?"
"Still, I don't think it's right!" Akane fumed. "Now
I have put up with him for another year, and this
time he's a teacher!"
"Whoa, don't forget about me! He's gonna be hitting
on me too, remember?" Ranma said, referring to a
curse, which would him into a girl whenever he would
get splashed by cold water. Hot water would reverse
the curse.
"That's because you keep encouraging him!" Akane
replied.
"I what? He's just a jerk! I can't help it that I'm
cute when I'm a girl!"
"Whatever Ranma, and besides, you really didn't
answer my first question anyway!" Akane began
practising her own balance on a curb, slowing down.
"You have to keep walking fast, you know. Can't slow
down or you'll lose it."
"Huh?"
"Never mind." Ranma looked down at the ditch far
below the fence. The water ran silently towards the
other direction. "Well, maybe I didn't understand
what you said. What would -you- answer if you were
me?"
Akane smiled, resuming her old pace. "Well, if I
were you, I'd say, 'I'm excited, cause I get to meet
so many new girls who I could hit on, and so many
other people I can pick on!"
"I ain't like that!" Ranma turned his attention away
from the ditch to Akane, so he could glare at her.
"And I didn't mean it like that! I meant, what do
you think this new school's going to be like?"
"I'm looking forward to going. There's going to be
so many new people...I bet I'll make lots of new
friends!"
Ranma pursed his lips. "Uh, Akane. Speaking of going
to school tomorrow, how the heck are we supposed to
get there? It's way up there, and we're down here!"
"Oh my! You're right! Principal Kuno never mentioned
that!" She pursed her own lips. "I guess we should
ask Nabiki. She'll know!"
There was money to be made. Since she was a teacher,
Nabiki could no longer profit off of the students
though. Fortunately, the man she was prepared to
squeeze money from was not a student. "Headmaster
Kuno, it seems you -forgot- to give the students
some important information..."
"The Big Kahuna is all ears, Miss Tendo." The
headmaster eased back in his chair, which was made
by tying a long cloth between two palm trees. "Now
what be the problem?"
"Oh, I -could- simply tell you couldn't I?" Nabiki
put forward a lazy yet intimidating stance. "But
there's so much to gain from this opportunity...A
ten percent raise if you would."
"That be out of the question, Miss Tendo."
"Well, Headmaster, it's your choice...but remember,
my information is always accurate and important."
She turned away, as if ready to leave. "I'm sure you
wouldn't want anyone to learn about the...Surfboard
Incident?"
"How did you...No wait...Hmm Miss Tendo, I think I
be understanding now..."
"That's good. This is too important to ignore."
Nabiki smirked. "You forgot to mention the students'
mode of transportation to the school tomorrow!"
The headmaster fell backwards out of his chair. "Oh
boy, the Big Kahuna's in real big trouble now!" he
said, picking himself off of the floor.
"Of course! But you know, for a previously mentioned
percentage added again to my salary, I -could- tell
you how you could inform the students of how they're
going to get to school..."
"I'll do anything!"
"Good, my answer is this, get off of your ass and
call them! All of them!" Nabiki slowly left the
office. "Have a good day Headmaster."
Headmaster Kuno looked at his telephone. "The Big
Kahuna is not meant to be phoning the students." He
looked at the phone again, and then called out,
"Sasuke!"
Casually shovelling food into his mouth, Ranma
looked at Nabiki. "You're saying we take a bus to
school?"
"No, I'm saying, we take an -airbus- to school
tomorrow." Nabiki casually took some food from her
plate. "There's a slight difference between what I
said and what you heard."
"What the heck is an airbus?"
Nabiki dropped her food. "You're so lucky you're a
student Ranma." Picking the food up, she threw it at
the chained panda outside. The panda caught the food
in his mouth. "Ranma, an airbus is named airbus,
because, it is a bus which flies in the air."
"Right, even though I never of an airbus before,
never seen an airbus before, I should've thought of
that sooner." Ranma looked at the panda. "Hey pop,
smile. Maybe mom will unchain you tonight?"
The panda held a sign up, "Boy, your mother will
never unchain me. Help!"
"Nope, can't help you. I got school tomorrow. I have
an -airbus- to catch in the morning." Nabiki rolled
her eyes at Ranma's sarcasm.
"Boy, I'm warning you...If you don't get these damn
chains off of me..."
"You'll what, Genma-dear?" Nodoka Saotome, mother of
Ranma, asked, appearing beside the panda. She didn't
look angry, but she did look curious.
Genma, who was cursed to be a panda when splashed by
cold water (but would regain human form when
splashed by hot water), and who was at the moment a
panda, and chained to a tree, sank defeated to the
ground. He raised another sign as well as his
spirits, "Son, I'll be forced to hug you and kiss
you and...."
"And name me George, huh?"
"Shut up, Boy!"
"Forget this, I'm going to bed. Goodnight everyone."
"Goodnight Ranma." Nodoka said.
"Oh Ranma, can you tell Akane about the airbus thing
for me?"
"I guess."
He never could understand. It was always cold water.
"Ah! That's cold!" Ranma, who at the moment was a
girl and dripping wet, looked up at the person who
woke her. "Oh, it's you."
"And just what do mean by that, hmm?" Akane growled.
"That you're uncute."
"Jerk!" After leaving an imprint of her hand across
Ranma's face, Akane left the bedroom. "Hurry up, or
we'll be late!" she yelled from outside the room.
"Why -is- it always cold? It's almost like she
enjoys looking at me when I'm a girl!" One of her
own shoes flew into the room, clipping Ranma on her
head.
"I heard that!"
"Good, that's because I wanted you to hear that!"
Ranma shouted, changing quickly into her everyday
clothes. She grabbed the shoe. "Toss the other one
in here!" The other shoe flew in, and hit her head.
"Don't order me around!"
Genma, chained, sleeping, and furry, felt a thump on
his head. "Hey pop! You can't sleep all day you
know!" Genma opened one eye, and saw his son, who at
the moment was his daughter, looking at him from the
wrong way. She was upside down.
"It's too early for this," his sign read. He swung
his sign about knocking Ranma off his head. He
watched the girl flip in midair and land on her
toes. Genma closed his eyes and fell back into
slumber.
Suddenly, he felt a splash, and then water
surrounding him. Again, he heard his son daughter
speak, "Hey Pop, quit sleeping with the fishes!"
Akane's voice raised itself above Ranma's, "Why
don't you just use the doors?"
"The window was more convenient! And besides, I
can't wear my shoes in the house!"
"Ranma, Akane, your bus is here!" Kasumi gently
called out, interrupting the two. The two ran madly
off.
Sighing in relief, Genma climbed out of the pond and
lied on the ground. The sound of lightwood falling
on the ground woke him.
"Dear, would you be a dear, and write on these
signs, 'I will not toss my child into a pit of
starving cats wrapped in sausages ever again' ten
thousand times?"
Genma sighed. No rest for the panda. Silently, he
wondered who would've told Nodoka about the Neko-
ken.
