Freaky Feeling
Author's Note:
I'm not really sure where I wanted this to go anymore, I wrote it a while
ago and forgot it was there so I'm hoping for some ideas on where to take
it, or if all else fails a new author to carry it on.
Heritage
In the beginning there was void....and from that void sprang
light........and PAIN! Lots of really really bad P A I N! Forcing his eyes
to squint to blot out some of that light was an exercise in new varieties of
pain to wich he was previously unaware. "Come on boy! I didn't hit you THAT
hard....get up." this last was a deep and masculine voice to wich he was
both familiar and unfamiliar at the same time. "uuhhaarrgghhh, I hurt...."
he choked out. "It's supposed to hurt when you get hit in the head, lets you
know you're alive!" the deep voice replied, "Now, come on, get up. This time
try to not leave yourself wide open." Willing his eyes to focus on the
voice, the young boy, finally, saw the face of his companion, an older asian
man, likely in his early thirties, was standing there looking at him, and
again that sensation of knowing and not know this man, "Do I know you?" the
youth inquired, not knowing what else to do, but knowing the last thing he
wanted to do was getg up. The elder's look changed from an almost jovial one
to one of annoyance, "Come on, quit stalling, get up so we can continue
today's lesson." Confused, and honestly clueless to the happenings prior to
a few moments ago, the boy tried again, "Look, I'm not stalling, I really
don't know who you are, but I get the feeling I should. Who are you? And for
that matter, who am I??" The other's face started to get red with fury
before he saw the honesty plain on the child's face, the rapid shift of
emotion startled the boy as anger was immediatly replaced by concern, "This
had better not be a bad joke," as he spoke the older man moved the boy's
head slowly away from where it was resting to reveal a rock protruding from
the ground, sqarely below where the youngster's head had landed.
"Ack....no!" the man choked out, as he check the back of the boy's head, and
found some blood and felt the skull give a little where it had cracked."My
son, tell me what can you remember?" the man's ashen face looked into his
son's eyes, desperate for some form of recognition. Thinking for a second,
the boy finally responded, "Nothing....I can't remember anything prior to
when I woke up." What little color the father had left drained away at that
simple sentance.
Several hours later the doctor approached the exhausted father in the
hospital lobby, "Sir, I'm sorry but your son has asevere concussion, and
amnesia, the latter of wich you were already aware. Medically he will be
able to leave here in a day or two, but there is something else I wanted to
ask you about." Nervous, and worried, the boy's father anxiously asked,
"What?? What is it?" The doctor's cool attitude belied the distaste he flet
for the conversation he was about to have with this man, "We found many
bruises and small cuts on the child's body. It looks as if the boy was
severely beaten, the skull injury is probably the result of this punishment
as the wounds are all fresh." Sensing the direction the doctor was taking
the conversation, the father interrupted. "I don't beat my boy like you are
suggesting doctor. He is a martial artist and I am his sensei as well as his
father, you may ask my wife, who is also a warrior, about the methods I use.
She will tell you I am a good teacher, those bruises are all from blows he
could have and should have blocked. Hell my son would tell you himself if he
had his memory." Contemplating the man's words the doctor stood in thought
for several moments before responding, "Well he definitly has the muscle
tone for it and the reflexes. I suppose it is possible things are as you
say, but you must understand, the boy will have to stay while this is
investigated." Turning to leave the father, the doctor paused, "So I can
inform the authorities, what school of fighting do you teach?" Straightening
somewhat, the father stated proudly, "The Mutsabeto Kakoto Ryu." "Never
heard of that one, but then again, that's not my field of interest,"
returned the doctor. "I'm not surprised, there never have been many students
of the school," said the father, "to my knowledge the grand master has
always kept the numbers small for reasons unknown to me." The doctor
scowled, "Hmm, yes, well I have to go and check up on some patients." with
that the doctor left the father alone in the lobby.
