Ranma-the-Trainer works better than Ranma-the-Pilot. Also, if we are
seeing
more from his point of view, you won't need to re-write everything
that
happened in the Robotech series verbatum. Veritech battles are cool
visually, but can get dull in reading. :) Definitely looking forward
to
more dialog and interpersonal stuff.
I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree somewhat here. Ranma starting
out as a trainer is definitely a good idea, but I don't believe that
it's
in his
character or honor to remain out of the battles forever. IMHO, he
would
be lead by his honor to take the path of the warrior as the way to help
the
most people the most effectively. I can see strong scenes of angst
filled
soul-searching as he slowly comes to that decision, but I believe that
this
decision is inevitable. Especially as he sees his new found friends
not
coming back, or being killed when shots make their way past the SDF-1's
defenses.
I couldn't have said it better myself. As a trainer, Ranma will meet
many soldiers, pilots and officers, and seeing them die as he stands as
a bystander should prod him into fighting. One of my mistakes in the
first version was rushing Ranma's decision--he's at the moment bent on
staying away from the army, and hates war. I do believe, though, that in
time Ranma's honor won't let him stay iddle.
Also, previous foreshadowings in the story intimate that Ranma is
filled
with protoculture powers due to eating several complete plants of the
flower of life. This would tend to force him into the forefront of
the
events as they unfold as everyone knows that the flowers tend to mess
with a person's destiny in order to get whatever it is they want.
Ah, good to know someone keeps that is mind. I haven't explored this
subplot with the depth it deserves only because I didn't want to
distract my readers during these first chapters. But, rest assured:
you'll find out why the flowers play such an important part in this
story somewhere along the way.
And Zor sent the SDF-1 to Earth for a reason... What was it again? ^_~
The whole bathroom scene was classic! Poor Rick, he's never gonna
know what
hit him! I can definitely see one big mess though, between Kyle,
Minmei,
Rick, Ranma, and Lisa. They are all interconnected in some way.
Ranma
fighting Kyle is definitely one-sided, but Ranma training Rick to beat
Kyle?
THAT would be fun! :)
