That could be fusion reaction to do such a job of converting that much
matter.
This was the only explanation to this phenomenon I can thought of.
The one problem with that is that it works fine for female to male, that is,
water becomes the extra mass for male Ranma's bigger frame. But what about
male to female?
The only way that works is that the extra mass becomes water and considering
some of the ways he's switched in the anime and in fanfiction, (ie: a drop of
water on the back of the neck, like during Nabiki's wedding in Nabiki's New
Horizions, or the water out of the ladle from that old lady on his way to
school) that's stretching it.
Personally, I prefer the theory that the bodies are switched and the other
body is simply at the bottom of the pool in some kind of stasis so it won't
drown.
