Ash looked at his Pokmon and replied, "Misty, that is your
decision.
If you choose to become human again, I won't hold it against you. If
you choose to remain a Pokmon, I will do my best to be your trainer.
I
won't make it for you. Now if you don't mind, I'd like to get some
sleep. I want to explore that underground forest tomorrow."

Does anyone really talk like that? It sounds like it comes out of
some kind of sensitivity workshop script. Wouldn't Ash be at least
initially shocked or confused by the idea of Misty possibly deciding to
abandon her humanity?

This is a common problem in fanfic, characters that aren't just more
caring, sharing and supportive than the original versions, but also more
caring, et cetera than is believable for anyone. C'mon, Ash is a 10-13
year old boy! Where did this mutant maturity come from?
