The wolves were gathering tonight. It seemed that the human cub was
again the matter of discussion... as an old, gray and gnarly wolf
jumped on the Rock and called audience with a howl, the panther lay
down comfortably.
The rest of the pack (including the human cub) had gathered around and
were waiting for their leader to speak.
The panther growled as it caught a whiff of another scent, one of a
despicable creature of this jungle.
The wolves smelt it too, apparently, since they started growling that
hated creature's name.
"Kahn! The tiger!"
True enough, the tiger walked confidently into the circle. Baloo, the
old bear and master of the LAW growled in resignation.
"Before you start the trial on the cub, I have something to say!"
Kahn stated. Everyone looked up (or down in Baheera's case).
Being a "guest" in the moot, Kahn should only speak when addressed to
or when the mayor speakers had had their turn.
This was most irregular. However, Baloo nodded his accent to the
surprise of everyone.
"Speak, oh, Khan."
"I have come to say that while Rudyard Kippling might be twitching in
his tomb, Gainax operatives twitching on a phone call to their lawyers
and the owners of Slayers, Slayers Next and Try might be offended by
the nature of Wanderer D's works, WD claims no ownership of any of all
the parties involved."
Everyone blinked at that. Even Khan.
Suddenly an armored giant hand grabbed Khan and lifted him up to the
face of EVA Unit 02.
"WHERE IS WANDERER D?!" Scully yelled from inside the EVA.
Behind her, Asuka struggled with her bonds. "'Can I see the interior of
your Eva?' she said! And I FELL FOR IT!"
Khan, for all his vaunted courage was currently terrified.
However, the tiger managed to speak.
"Wanderer D doesn't own you either..."
"Oh! Not another disclaimer! ARGHHH!"

The Evaslayers: Chapter 5

NERV Central Dogma remained silent for a few seconds, nobody moving
and staring at the semi-melted side of Ramiel. A few seconds later,
Lina's Eva crashed to the ground, immobile.
Gendo blink-blinked, then turned to stare at Ritsuko.
"Dr. Ritsuko... When did we develop that technology?"
Ritsuko remained silent for a few moments before answering.
"W-we didn't, sir..."
Misato snapped out of her reverie and turned to look at the monitors.
The fifth angel had stopped its drilling for now.
"Get Eva Unit 01 out there and get Lina in here! NOW!"
Shinji was immediately dispatched and picked up Lina, while Rei shot
at Ramiel.
The Angel had suffered greatly, and, as the sensors in NERV HQ started
picking up the energy build up, both EVA units had carried the third
under.

"Well?" Gendo looked up at Ritsuko from his chair.
"Ramiel has taken a lot of damage and stopped to regenerate itself.
We have a few hours before he resumes his digging."
"What about miss Inverse's 'fireball'?"
"We are not sure, but it seems that she gathered the Evangelion's
AT field and was able to make it *look* like a fireball."
"What about the fire effect?"
Ritsuko shrugged. "As of yet we have no leads on the fire, and its
cause, but the MAGI's opinion is that it fed itself of the EVA's
and the Angel's AT fields."
"Hmm, interesting. But how do we plan to destroy the Angel?"
"Misato's working on it. We're going to use the Positron Rifle..."
Gendo nodded.

Lina woke up inside what she recognized as NERV's medical facilities.
"Ohhhh, my head hurts..."
"Hello, Lina!"
Lina sat up in the bed and immediately regretted it. "Xellos? What are
you doing here?"
"I'm taking care of you, of course!"
"What happened to that... Angel thing I was fighting? Did I destroy
it?"
"Um, it seems it would take much more than a fireball to destroy it,
but you did a pretty good job of tanning its side..."
"What? And why do I feel so drained? I just did a Fireball! It's
nothing out of the common!"
Xellos shrugged. "Maybe it was just the adrenaline rush, or the fact
that you made a fireball the size of the Eva?"
"..." Lina remained silent, now that Xellos had put it that way
she was having some doubts again.
The door opened and Rei walked calmly into the room. She stopped
when she noticed Xellos, but immediately centered her
concentration on Lina.
"I have our instructions now." The pale girl said. Direct to the point,
as always.
Lina blinked.
Clearing her throat, Rei began to read from her notebook.
"Pilots Ikari, Ayanami and Inverse will be taken at 1800 hours to
a strategically positioned area where Pilot Ikari will use the
Positron Rifle to fire upon the Angel. Pilots Inverse and Ayanami
will serve as backup and shield respectively."
Lina blinked. "What does that mean?"
"That means that Shinji boy is going to shoot at the angel while you
and Rei provide backup."
"No, I got that. What I meant was what is a rifle?"
"Let's just say that it would be a machine capable of shooting the
equivalent of two charged fireballs the size you shot out earlier
today.
Rei looked up at Xellos. "How would you know that? It's supposed to be
confidential."
"That, is a secret! ... Actually, it's hard to miss a giant fireball
cooking the side of the Angel!"

"I bet I could take that thing out with my Dragon Slave." Lina muttered
from the shoulder of her Eva. From where she was, she could clearly see
the giant angel as it calmly continued digging into NERV HQ.
Shinji and Rei had heard her muttering, and it was Shinji who asked
what she had said.
...what she had said.
"You mean that you think you could take that thing with that Dragon
Slave of yours and do it without being in your Eva?"
Lina nodded.
"Somehow I find that hard to believe," Shinji muttered.
"Flare..."

Ritsuko turned off the radio. It seemed that miss Inverse had more to
herself than initially appeared.
She noticed Shinji coming out of a nearby water container. His plug
suit was a little singed but otherwise... She also noticed Misato
storming up to where Shinji was standing.
"What are you doing, Shinji! This isn't the time to take a bath! Get
ready to pilot your Eva!"
Misato pulled the protesting Shinji from the ear back to Eva Unit 01.
Ritsuko shook her head. If they survived they would have to have a
little chat.

Lina's Eva stood ready for action as Shinji pointed the rifle to the
center of Ramiel and waited for the computer to indicate that all
necessary calculations had been finished.
The electrical energy of all Japan was being channeled into the
generators. It was all a matter of seconds now. She didn't want to
admit it to herself, but she was nervous.
For a moment she considered the implications of accepting that to
herself...
Sure, she had been nervous in the past, but she had managed to overcome
that with her confidence. But she hadn't really lost someone
before...
"Oh, Gourry..."
Suddenly it became clear to her. She hadn't been able to do anything
back then, but she could do so now!

Ritsuko looked up at her communicator.
"Yes, Lina?"
Ritsuko hoped that the girl wouldn't freak out and ignore her orders!
It was bad enough already.
"Ritsuko, tell me, the Angel's AT field is a sort of wall created by
the soul, right?"
"Lina, you should be concentrating on the task at ha-"
One of the technicians ran up to her.
"Doctor! The Angel is beginning to power up again! It's planning to
shoot again!"
"Dammit! We'll talk about that later, Lina! Now forget about that and
follow your orders! Understood?"
Ritsuko hung up, but before leaving she reminded herself to activate
the recorder.

At the same moment both, Unit 01 and the Angel opened fire.
The beams rushed at each other, seemingly negating themselves as
their powers interferred.
Both missed their targets and blew up against the mountains.
Shinji cursed -as did most of the other people present- and changed
fusels, holding himself at the ready as the batteries charged
themselves up again.
Lina scowled as the Angel began gathering energy again. Well, if the AT
field was a representation of the soul, then she had something that
would certainly help out. She just had to wait for the right
moment...
"Batteries at 57 %," Ritsuko warned.
"Everlasting Flame of Blue!"
"69 %"
"Let the power hidden in my soul..."
"77 %! Come on!" Misato growled beneath her breath.
"...be called forth here from the infinite!"
"95 % Just a little... Damn!"
The Angel fired and, as Shinji though himself dead...
Rei jumped in front of Shinji's Eva, using the shield to stop the brunt
of the hit, Lina jumping in behind her and helping her with the shield.
"100! SHOOT!"
"Rah Tilt!"

Later that night, Ritsuko was drinking her coffee when Misato sat next
to her.
"Yes? What is it, Misato? I've noticed that something's been bothering
you..."
Misato nodded and took a sip of her own coffee. "It's just that I was
analyzing the videos from the last fight..."
"And?" Ritsuko encouraged her.
"It's weird, but according to the scanners Ramiel's AT field
disappeared completely mere seconds before the Positron Rifle finished
it. It's as if something had destroyed it before our beam reached it."
Ritsuko nodded thoughtfully. "I'll check those myself tomorrow. Right
now I'm too tired to do anything but sleep."
Misato smiled smugly. "I thought you never slept!"
Ritsuko shrugged. "Well, I never said I was perfect."
On her way home Ritsuko slipped the CD that had recorded Lina's voice
"Oh yes, miss Inverse, we have to talk."
