While I don't want to discourage Knight Writer from continuing
this effort, I have to agree with much of the critisism raised
about fitting anti-mutant hysteria in with Ranma 1/2.

The basic premise that Akane is _immediately_ identified as a
mutant while as Ranma and the like were accepted as martial
artists is flawed.  It doesn't matter that this is placed
before the major weirdness begins because there is a huge
plot discrepancy in setting it anytime after Volume 1 Part 1.

Ignore for the moment the reaction of students of Furinkan
and consider the reaction of the Tendos, when they first meet
Ranma and his father, in a world where anti-mutant hysteria
reigned.

-after the bathroom scene, the curses were revealed-

"Daddy, why are you friends with these freaks," Kasumi
demanded.

"They we're like this before," Soun cried.  "Not before
they went to China... and under took that terrifying training
exorsise."

-insert standard Jusenkyo explaination.-

"You really expect us to buy that?" Nabiki demanded in
disbelief.  "We do listen to the news, you know."

"Us?  Marry a mutant?" Akane protested.  "Never!"

"Say, what do ya mean, 'mutant'?" Ranma demanded, not
knowing what a mutant was but knowing an insult when he heard
one.

"You change genders, _mutant_," Akane pointed out.

"Hold it!" Ranma protested.  "It's a curse!"

"So you say!" Akane huffed.

Kasumi grasped her father's gi and growled into his face,
"Daddy, you just went to far this time!"

"Oh definitely," Nabiki agreed coldly.

-and a completely different plot developed-

Even if the anti-mutant hysteria spread to Nerima after this
time, Knight Writer, you have to explain why nobody started to
look sideways at the shape-shifting Saotomes yet immediately
turned on Akane, even if she had a physical manifestation of
her mutation to go with her new tallent.

In my oppinion, the best explanation would be that Isao has a
vested interest in alienating Akane and has a telepathic partner
broadcasting hate vibes (whether for some sinister purpose, as
Nabiki suspects, or just for her own good).  After all, someone
already identified Akane as a mutant well before her power
manifested, yet passed over the cursed individuals, suggesting
that some sort of 'hound' power or cerebro-like technology was
used.

Alternately you could do as some suggested and have Isao prejudiced
to just assume that Akane would be reviled without knowing what
was considered normal in Nerima (which was the way I thought the
fic would turn out.)

"Ranma, you idiot!" Mutant-Akane screamed.  "Divine Retribution!"
