Fine. Ranma's still has his phemnominal cat-like
powers, and the fact
that he turns into a girl has already been revealed
to the school (and at
least the male body was seen to approve). I think
five was when Ryouga
learns the Breaking Point technique, granting him
super endurance to go
with his monster strength (he can inadvertantly
break phone poles!), but
I'm not sure exactly what happened where. Hell,
Kuno has his technique
that can shatter walls at long distances. No one's
tried to tar and
feather them.
@@Hmmm, good point. This tends to support my earlier
comment that there need to be more back-story.
HOWEVER ^_^
Martial arts are traditional and there is a cultural
"box" to fit martial arts and superhuman abilities
gained therefrom.
Ranma is good clean cut _Japanese_ boy, using
traditional Japanese spirit.
A very valid distinction.
MUTANTS on the other hand . . .well you can't really
trust _them_, now can you.
Akane . . .she's a mutant <ewwwww> and you _know_ what
they are like.
The problem here is that there's no reason for anyone to
think that Akane is a mutant as things stand. She is a
martial artist, from the same martial art as Ranma, doing
nothing more impressive or outre than things done by
other martial artists. The onlookers need a cue
for their prejudice.
In a lot of ways if Nabiki did the same thing, the resultant
fear would be more understandable because everyone knows
she ISN'T a martial artist.
