/me was confused, but I'll put my discord in anyway.
This got a whole lot of replies to the list. It took me two tries to
understand what exactly happened, but I get it. So Akane's a mutant, right?
Well, even if people say that the "Ranma universe this would be common" or
that "Akane doesn't deserve any power," this was still pretty good. I see
it as using the Marvel X-men universe as a background, where mutants,
despite saving the world over and over again, are seen as revolting
creatures (anyone go to the movies this summer?).
So, KITT, what I see happening here is that you have a lot of people who
aren't familiar with them (like me, but a good friend of mine can rattle off
text from memory of every comic book ever made), and who don't understand
the situation. Was the story good? Yes. Does it have a future? Yah.
My big thing worry about this is that most of the cast could be
considered mutants if we consider canon. Most of the cast changes into
animals, Ranma and Ryoga throw ki around, we see elderly mummies fighting,
etc. Of course, they're also martial artists, which is
Traditional...different than the vaguely Rogue/Storm thing Akane had going
on (did I get that right? Touched Ranma, and lightning coursed through his
body?), and culture would Accept that. The curses would be kept more
secret, because (unless magic was normal) shapeshifters would be considered
evil.
So what can you do? Do a little rewrite, and keep on writing.
