Prologue
Balance. One of the few words that safely describe
the universe as a whole. Since the beginning, every-
thing in existence has possessed some sort of balance.
Good and Evil. Love and Hate. Life and Death. There even
exists a balance between worlds. And like all balances,
when the one existing between worlds is disturbed, the
powers that be will do everything to set it right.
This is the basis for this story.
The story of two worlds soon to collide...
*****
It is nighttime over Viridian City, home to the secret headquarters of the sinister (and somewhat inept) Team Rocket. At the Viridian Gym, or rather under it, there exists a huge laboratory; the kind of place where hundreds of doubtlessly questionable experiments are happening at once. Five of these experiments currently reside within five large capsules, which are glowing in diferent colors...
"That's strange..." a lab tech says, while poring over readouts from computers hooked up to the tubes.
"What's strange?" A second lab tech makes his presence known.
"Ever since we added the genetic instructions, the clones have started to mutate, each one in slightly different ways. For example..."
At this point, a shadowy figure steps into the room, a feline creature at its heels. "How are our subjects coming along?"
"According to the instruments, the clones are stable... But I'm still concerned about inserting the genetic instruction sequence this late in the process. There may be a possibility of genetic degradation."
The shadowed figure speaks again. "If the clones are stable, then activate them. Let us see whether or not your concerns are justified."
As the technicians finish the activation procedure, the capsules begin to open, one after another. The inhabitants of the capsules step out of their confinement, and an awed silence pervades the room.
The creatures, as they appear, all seem to share the same basic body structure. Tall frame. Thin arms. Legs whose knees bend in the oposite direction from a human's. Three digits on the hands and feet. Long tail. The appearance of these creatures makes it obvious what they are clones of.
Mewtwo.
The first, emerging from a chamber marked with a stylized flame sybmbol, bears skin colors which gave the appearance of being wrapped in flames. The tip of its tail is aflame, and each of its digits bear talons, which are shown to be retractable - yet ready to be used at any time - as it flexes its hands.
<Subject "Inferno" Ready>
As the second emerges from a capsule bearing a lightning bolt symbol, it seems to give the impression of a Mewtwo's version of a Jolteon. Its natural outer plating is spiked at the shoulders, elbows and knees. Sparks dance between its spines as it takes its 'first steps'.
<Subject "Dynamo" Ready>
The third capsule, this one marked with a snowflake inside a drop of water, produces an ice-blue-colored clone, with fins along its tail and on its forearms and lower legs. It sports a three-pointed crest on its forehead, similar to that of a Gyarados.
<Subject "Blizzard" Ready>
From a fourth capsule, adorned with a symbol of a metal plate with a rivet at each of the four corners, comes a clone bearing a huge reasemblance to the Mewtwo of old, when it wore the special armor suit; the difference is, this one's suit seems to be permanently integrated with its host. Tubes leading from the edges of the suit bury themselves in its skin, and a bundle of shielded cords lead from the back of the helmet into the spinal column. The visor on the helmet was half-open, covering the eyes but not the mouth.
<Subject "Steele" Ready>
"Welcome to the world, my pyschic friends. You have already exceeded my expectations." The shadowy figure, speaking to the 'newborns'. "Now, shall we meet your 'sibling'?" He gazes at the fifth chamber, which...
...is not opening.
"Care to explain this, Smith?" the shadowy figure says in a coldly angered voice.
The nervous techie replies, "I... don't know... The tests said-" and is cut off as a low, vibrating hum and a bright white light emanate from the unopened capsule.
<Warning. Warning. Subject in capsule number five displaying power at dangerous levels.>
Intrigued, the shadowed man is unsurprised as the fifth capsule is shattered in a flood of blinding light.
As the light dims, the fifth is revealed.
Except for a crescent-shaped crest on its forehead, points up, the fifth clone looks almost exactly like the original Mewtwo. There are subtle differences, however. Where the 'shoulder guards' of the original's body armor flared upwards slightly, this one's curve over the joint, like a shell. The 'armor' was overall less angular. The arms were shorter, the legs thicker, the tail thinner and longer. If one word could describe this clone, it would have to be....
....'female'.
"We thought that by making the purely psychic one female, we could perhaps curb her violent tendencies, unlike her male counterpart - with whom we were unsuccessful in that regard. But I am perplexed at the power spike before her emergence; that kind of energy is indicative of-"
"Evolution, yes, I know." Turning to the first four, the man in the shadows steps into the light. It is Giovanni, now addressing the group.
"Gentle-mon, may I introduce your sister... Mewthree."
*****
As if it were an omen of disaster to come, the skies above Viridian City split, venting the fury of the heavens in a great thunderbolt. For even nature itself trembles at the coming of such a powerful thing-which-should-not-be.
Tremble, O ye mortals, and weep. The Day of Judgment is come, and the gavel is in the hand of evil.
