I like the end though. ^.^

Borrowed from Arthur C Clarke.  But particularly appropriate here...
Nice story.

I also liked this story, but IMO the end would have been even
better if you'd borrowed Clarke's ending word-for-word,
instead of paraphrasing:

        "Look," whispered Daisuke, and Sayuri lifted her eyes to 
heaven. (There is always a last time for everything.)
        Overhead, without any fuss, the stars were going out.
