I guess I was lucky. I had a mentally handicapped friend, but we
were to ignorant to be prejudiced against him. Shucks most of the
kids didn't even figure out what was a different until we too
used to Jimmy to care. One heck of a nice guy, always envied that
about him.

By the By, Mad Hamlet, I believe the term for what your friend
did is Idiot Savant. A genius level talent in an otherwise normal
or even sub-normal individual. I have seen these in people of
average IQ and in people who were well under the average.
Although in my experience, I tended to see mental abilities far
more commonly than physical ones. Example a rival of mine back in
high school could remember anything he read perfectly for about
three and a half days. then it completely and permanently faded
away. A friend in junior high could draw any picture he saw. He
couldn't improve it or even change it but he could copy any style
and do a very good job of it. I believe he got arrested for
counterfeiting and forgery years later...

Why shouldn't truth be stranger than fiction? Fiction, after all,
has to make sense.
  Mark Twain (1835-1910)

their feet, what
will happen if you strap toast to the back of a cat and drop it?"

Monday is an awful way to spend 1/7th of your life.
