Okay, so the subject was a little misleading. For those people who have
recently asked for hosting of their fanfics, I simply wanted to remind
them that if they have sent their stories through the mailing list in
the
last four years, it is probably already archived at the FFML
Mini-Archive.
There are currently 15,528 stories archived at the site, comprising just
shy of 500 MB of text. They are searchable by Title, Author, Author's
Email Address, and Month Received.
Additionally, I wanted to make sure that everyone here was aware that
I give my explicit permission to linking to any page, search, or story
on the FFML Mini-Archive. I created the archive to make sure that none
of the stories that have passed through the list are lost to us either
through deletion, neglect, or obscurity. Therefore, I want to make sure
that authors lacking the space to upload their stories to their own web
site know that they are welcome to link directory to their page on mine.
If you have questions about how to go about creating the hyperlinks,
feel free to ask. Generally, I would suggest going to the story(s) you
wish to link to and copying the URL from the frame. If you wish to
link to a search, simply type in the search to the search box and again
copy out the URL of the frame that results. You are also free to
display any of these pages in frames, although I caution against the
inherent tackiness of most frame designs (the only reason I have my site
in frames is to allow people to resize the mandatory banner and menu to
zero when they wish to view stories. Tables don't resize <grin>).
Incidentally, if you find that your stories are not currently listed in
the FFML Mini-Archive, feel free to email them to me. Make sure to
have the story in the body of the email, NOT as an attachment (the
parsing program can't handle attachments and adding stories manually
is a major pain.)
Finally, I want to thank everyone who has used the site and those who
occasionally drop me an email. I have very little time to write and
merely wanted some way to give back to the list that has given me so
many wonderful stories. I have neither the time nor the temperment
for good fiction writing, but I do have some skills as a computer
programmer, so I decided to contribute in the way that I was best at.
For anyone who is interested in the code and database structure that
powers the Mini-Archive, I will provide it freely upon request. It's
mostly MS Access and VB, since that is what I have at hand, but it
seems to work fairly well (2,000 - 3,000 pageviews a day isn't bad
<grin>).
Oh, the URL. http://meridun.tripod.com/index.html
Thanks again,
