into EVA, but before the Rei clones are destroyed.

-Preface-
After a night of sync tests, Shinji and Rei walk back
to Misato's apartment together. After they both exit
the elevator, they proceed down the hallway to the
apartment. Once they arrived at the door, Shinji
gathered up the courage for his next words.
Nervously, Shinji turns to face Rei "Thank you for�for
walking home with me, Ayanami."
Rei flatly replies with "It was�no problem." However,
before she can leave, Shinji asks her a question.
Quickly, he speaks up "Um�Ayanami�Misato has to work
late tonight�would you�would you like to have some tea
with me? I'd rather not be alone right now."
Confused, Rei gives Shinji a puzzled look. 'Why does
he want me to have tea with him?' Quietly she
replies, "Yes."
After Shinji opens the door, they enter the apartment,
remove their shoes, then head to the kitchen for some
tea. Rei sits down at the table while Shinji grabs
two glasses from the cupboard and some tea from the
fridge. After filling the glasses, he hands one to her
and goes to sit down at the table across from her.
Instead, he spills his tea onto his shirt. With an
apologetic look "Sorry�I'll be back�in a moment."
Rei continues to drink her tea while Shinji goes to
his room to change his shirt. However, it acually
isn't tea, and since Rei has not had tea before, she
is unaware that she is drinking beer.
Moments later, Rei begins to feel a bit tipsy. 'What
is this feeling? A feeling I have never experienced
before. I feel�dizziness�but more?'
Rei looks at the now empty glass of tea/beer and
decides she wants some more. 'This tea tastes good.'
A few moments later, Rei drinks from the juice
container, while, at the same time, having trouble
standing up. After the container is empty, she
staggers over to the fridge to see if there is any
more tea, she sees there is none, but does see the
beer on Misato's side. She drinks one of the beers and
finds that it tastes like the tea.
Five minutes later, after drinking a six pack, Rei can
barely stand up, let alone think straight. 'Why am I
here? Why won't _HE_ let me DIE? What purpose do I
serve for him?' Her mind continues to ponder her
existence, until she starts thinking about Shinji.
'Ikari, he has shown concern for me, why? What is
this feeling I have for him?'
Moments later, Pen-Pen walks by. The penguin stares
at her for a few moments, wondering why Rei is here at
Misato's apartment. "Qwaaa!"
Rei, confused, looks back at the penguin. 'Who are
you?'
"Qwaaa!" Pen-Pen stares at her for a moment longer
before continuing back to his fridge.
"Who are you�"

While Rei is in the kitchen, Shinji, meanwhile, has
changed shirts and is talking to Misato on the phone.
<Shinji, I'm coming home soon, I have to wait until
tomorrow before I can finish my work.>
"Okay, Misato."
<Is there anything you need from the store?>
"Not that I know of."
<Hai, seeya soon.>

Shinji hangs up the phone and heads back to the
kitchen, only to find Rei sitting on the floor near a
pile of beer cans and an empty juice container.
Curiously, he askes, "Ayanami? What's wrong, Ayanami?"
With a slurred reply "I-Ikari? D...do you th-think
I'm�pretty?"
'Ayanami sure is acting strange, even for her, and
where did all these beer cans come from? Oh no! She
didn't!'
"I�Ikari, come have some t-tea with me." With this,
Rei grasps an unopened beer can and opens it with a
loud pssst!
'She did!'
A few minutes later Shinji has managed to set Rei onto
the chair she was sitting on and notices the container
that held the so-called "tea".
He takes a sniff of the inside and finds that it
smells like beer.
'OH SHIT!'
"MISATO NO BAKA!!!!!!!!" Shinji curses.
Seductively, Rei speaks out to Shinji.
"Ikariiiiiii!?!?!?!?"
"Huh?"
Shinji turns back to Rei as she begins to remove her
shirt, socks, and bow. Wide eyed, Shinji staggers back
a few steps.
Stunned "Ahh�ahh!!" 'I mustn't run away!'
He gets a slight nosebleed from the sight in front of
him.
"AYANAMI, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?!' he shouted in a
panicky voice.
"Showing that I care for you."
Shinji stumbles into a counter on the opposite side of
the kitchen.
Rei pouts with a slurred reply "You do th-think I'm
p-pretty, don't you??"
Nervously, he said "Y-y-yes�er�I-I do Ayanami." 'I
mustn't run away, I mustn't run away.'
"You do?"
"Yes Ayanami."
Aroused, she asked "Unnh......, Ikari...do you wish to
join with me?"
Surprised, he asked "What?!"
Still aroused, she answered "Have sex? I believe
Doctor Akagi called it...screw?"
He is now very scared of Rei, 'I MUSTN'T RUN AWAY!!'
Rei starts to remove her skirt in front of Shinji,
causing his nosebleed to worsen. As she finishes
removing her skirt, Shinji hears Misato enter the
apartment and quickly goes to greet his roommate at
the front door. 'I've got to get Misato out of here.'
He quickly thinks up an excuse to tell Misato
"Misato! We don't have any more instant, could you go
to the store and pick some up, please?"
Misato thinks about this request before responding.
"Shinji, why didn't you tell me that before I left
NERV��, and why is your nose bleeding?"
'Think, Shinji.', Shinji wipes away the blood, "I
walked into a cupboard by accident��, and I forgot
about food�also, I'm cooking up a surprise for you,
and I need some..... tofu! So can you get some??.
Please?"
"Wait, I thought you said we need more instant."
"We do, ah�we need both!"
Misato is reluctant to respond. "Okay, but this had
better be worth it, Shinji, otherwise you get to do
extra work for a month, including cleaning my office
at NERV."
'Yes!' "Thanks, Misato."
After a moment of hesitation, Misato heads back out
the door to buy more food, and beer.
'That was close.' After the door is closed, Shinji
stands there a few seconds longer just in case Misato
comes back, then turns to head back to the kitchen,
when he hears the sound of a bottle breaking. "Oh
no�AYANAMI!!!" Running into the kitchen, Shinji sees
that Rei has drunk some sake and is sitting near a
pool of vomit.
'Oh no.' "Ayanami?"
Drunkenly, she says "Ikariiiiii, That of-(hic)-fer
still stands."
'Ayanami's drunk!' "Um, maybe another time Ayanami."
Shinji decides it would be best to put Rei in his room
until he can decide what to do with her. As he begins
to help her up off the floor, he notices that a
strange bluish-green liquid has mixed in with the
vomit next to her. Though he is confused as to what
the liquid could be, Shinji decides to worry about it
later. 'I've got to move Ayanami out of here before
Misato comes back!'
After carefully laying Rei on his bed, Shinji goes
back to the kitchen to clean up the mess. 'Misato's
going to kill me when she sees Ayanami, and what is
that musty odor?'
After cleaning up the floor, Shinji hears the front
door open and sees his housemate enter. Unfortunately,
when Misato enters the kitchen, she notices a familiar
stench.
Curiously, she asks "(sniff) Shinji, why does it smell
like beer, (sniff) vomit, (sniff) sake, and�(sniff)
(sniff) sex in here?"
'Should I tell Misato about Ayanami?...' "Um�I don't
smell anything."
"And where did all these beer cans come from?"
'�No, she'll throw me into a cell for this...' "They
don't belong to you?"
"Shinji, what's going on here?!" Misato snaps VERY
suspiciously.
'�But if I don't tell her, she may find Ayanami.'
"N�nothing Misato."
"What are you hiding from me?"
'She knows something's wrong.'
Silence.
"Misato, did you switch my tea with your beer?"
Smiling, Misato replies with "yeah, but I told you
that yesterday, didn't I?"
Misato is given a cold stare by the boy. "You weren't
even here yesterday."
Regretfully, she replies "Oops."
"Could you come with me, Misato?!"
"Will this answer my question?"
Shinji only nods.
"Hai!"
Shinji leads Misato to his bedroom door and is about
to open it, when he thinks twice about it. 'It's best
if she does this herself.' "Misato, I think I'll let
you open the door."
Misato opens the door a crack and peeks in, only to
find a semi-naked Rei passed out near a pool of vomit.
She shuts the door again and quickly pulls Shinji into
her room. "Shinji, why is Rei passed out and naked on
your bed!?!"
"Two words, Misato. Ayanami's drunk!"
"WHAT!?!?"
"I invited her in for some tea, and she drank all the
beer in the juice container, then a six-pack, and some
sake."
Misato can only stay silent as Shinji's words hit her
with full force.
"Why didn't you stop her?!"
"I spilled some of the beer on my shirt before I could
drink any. Ayanami got drunk while I went to change,
and while I was on the phone with you."
*******************
While Misato and Shinji are talking, Rei is starting
an interesting dream.
=(Rei is silent as she floats over a bluish-green
pool, at the center sits Lilith on the cross.)=
="Where am I?"=
=(Silence.)=
="Why am I here?"=
=(Soon, something resembling Pen-Pen appears next to
Rei.)=
=//"You are here to learn of your purpose."=
="Who are you?"=
=//"You will soon learn who I am, but right now, I am
to help you understand your presence."=
="Understand?..."=
=//"Understand your presence as an EVA pilot."=
="I pilot because I have�"=
=//"NO, that is your reason for piloting EVA, you must
understand _HIS_ reason for you piloting EVA."=
="I�do not understand?"=
=(Rei's stomach begins to grow larger as she stares at
the creature in front of her.)=
=//"You are about to become what only one other person
has considered you to be like."=
=(FLASHBACK)=
=Shinji "When we were cleaning today�you were
squeezing the cloth. The way you squeezed it was like
a mother."=
=Rei "A mother�"=
=Shinji "I thought it was like a mother. I think
you'll make a good mother, Ayanami. (Laugh)"=
=Rei "You're embarrassing me."=
=(END)=
=//"It is for this reason that you pilot EVA in _HIS_
eyes."=
="I�do not understand?"=
=//"You will soon enough, mother."=
It is after these words that Rei wakes up from the
dream to her drunken state. She gets up, then
staggers over to the door and heads down the hall to
Misato's room.

Meanwhile, Misato and Shinji are thinking about what
to do with Rei for the night.
"It's probably best if you sleep in Asuka's room
tonight, Shinji."
"Hai, Misato."
"Go grab anything you will need for tonight from your
room, but don't wake up Rei, it's best if she just
sleeps for now."
"Hai."
Just then, a thought hits Misato. "WAIT, you still
haven't told me why it smells like sex in the
kitchen?"
'Come to think of it, what was that musty odor in the
kitchen?' "Um�she asked me if I wanted to have sex
with her, but�but I refused."
Rei suddenly makes her presence known. "That's not
what I said, I asked if 'you wish to join with me'."
Misato and Shinji spin around, surprised to see Rei
leaning against the doorway to Misato's room.
Misato is the first to respond, "Rei, you're awake!
How do you feel?"
"I feel��.sick."
"That's normal."
After a few moments, Rei passes out in Misato's room.
Misato quietly mutters something to herself. "Ritsuko
is going to kill me."
"What, Misato?"
"Never mind. Shinji, can you bring Rei back to your
room, please?"
"Hai."
As Shinji helps Rei back to his room, again, he hears
the phone ring.
Misato answers the phone. "Hello?.."
Shinji carries Rei back into his room. Before he lays
her on the bed, he decides to change the sheets first,
and maybe find a bucket for her to puke in later.
After the bed is taken care of, Shinji sets her on the
bed, but before he can lay her back, she awakens.
Weakly, Rei speaks "Ikari?"
"Ayanami?"
"Where am I?"
"You are at Misato's apartment."
"What�happened?"
"Misato switched my tea with some beer�you ended up
drinking all of it, plus six cans of beer and some
sake."
"I�don't feel so good."
Shinji helps Rei into the bed, and she lies back
without hesitation. "Well, it's best if you get some
rest now. If you need to empty your stomach, you can
use this bucket." He indicates the bucket sitting by
the bed.
"Hai..."
"Get some rest now."
Rei nods.
Shinji walks out the door and quietly shuts it, then
goes back to Misato's room, where she is talking to
Ritsuko on the phone.
"So it might be a good idea to cancel that synch test
in the morning."
<How can you be so irresponsible, Misato!>
"How was I supposed to know she would drink that
much?!"
<You should have never switched the tea with your beer
in the first place!>
"Like your so perfect!"
<I'm not that stupid, Misato!>
"SHUT UP!!"
<Look, I'll cancel the synch test tomorrow, but only
if you report this incident to Commander Ikari
yourself!>
"WHAT!! Why do I have to do the dirty work?!"
<Because it's your fault that this happened!>
"Fine, fine! I'll keep Rei over here tonight for
observation."
<Okay. Goodnight Misato!>
"Yeah yeah!"

After Misato hangs up the telephone, Shinji asks her
if Rei will be okay. "What did Ritsuko say about
Ayanami?"
"Not to worry, Rei should feel better in the morning,
just keep an eye on her."
"Hai."
Silence.
"So, how is she?"
"She's sleeping right now."
"Did you grab your stuff from your room yet?"
"No, not yet."
"Well, now is the best time to do it."
Rei "I do not wish to sleep alone tonight."
For the second time that night, Misato and Shinji turn
around at the sound of Rei's voice.
"I wish to sleep with Ikari."
Shinji is stunned. "Ayanami?"
Misato is not as easily persuaded by this request.
"Rei, I can't let you sleep with Shinji, it's not wise
in light of the current situation."
"But I do not wish to be alone�"
"I'm sorry, Rei, but as your commanding officer, I am
denying your request."
"Hai."
Shinji thinks back to when he saw Rei on the floor the
second time that night, as he goes over the details he
remembers the strange liquid he saw near her. 'What
was that stuff? Come to think of it, what was that
odor, could Ayanami have been poisoned?'
After going over the events a second time, he decides
to speak up. "Misato, it might be a better idea for
Ayanami to sleep with someone tonight, just in case
her situation becomes worse."
Misato hears this and sees that it may be better to
let Shinji watch over Rei tonight after all. "Well
�okay, but Shinji, you are only to watch over Rei,
nothing else. Now everyone out, I'm too tired to put
up with any more problems tonight."
"Goodnight, Misato."
Rei grips her throbbing head.
Misato starts preparing for bed as she pushes Shinji
and Rei out the door. "Goodnight everyone." At this,
Misato shuts her door, and Shinji helps Rei back to
his room.
Once the two of them are inside, Shinji shuts the door
and goes to find a shirt for Rei to wear for the
night.
"Ikari?"
After finding a shirt, he replies "Yes?"
Regretfully, but quietly, she responds "I'm��I'm
sorry."
Confused, he asks "Ayanami?"
"I'm sorry about the way I have acted tonight, It
was�inappropriate."
As Rei sheds a single tear, Shinji thinks about what
to do next. 'I've never seen Ayanami act like this
before. Why does she regret her actions? She had no
idea what she was doing, it's not her fault Misato
didn't tell me about the beer.' After a few seconds,
Shinji decides to act upon the situation by walking
over to Rei with shirt in hand. "Ayanami?"
Soon, Rei begins to silently cry.
Seeing Rei cry prompts Shinji to sit down on the bed
next to her. Quietly, he continues "Ayanami, it's not
your fault. You didn't know you were drinking beer."
Shinji moves closer to Rei and wraps his arms around
her. Surprised by Shinji's sudden actions, Rei
shudders in his embrace. "Ayanami�you should never
regret�what you can't control." moment of silence
"Ayanami, you are�one of the nicest people I know�I
hope�I hope that part of you never changes, ever."
After hearing Shinji's kind words, Rei produces a
small smile, one similar to the smile she gave him
after the battle with the Fifth Angel when Shinji
opened the entry plug she was in, and pulls him closer
to her. "Ikari?"
"Yes, Ayanami?"
"My offer still stands."
"What?"
"Would you like to become one with me�mind, body, and
soul? It could be�nice."
Shinji turns a very deep shade of red after hearing
this. 'I mustn't run away!' "I�I don't think I
should, it�it wouldn't feel right tonight."
"Would you at least sleep with me in the bed, I�would
feel better if you did."
'I guess it can't hurt�but why does she want me to
sleep with her?' "S-sure." Shinji hands her the shirt
and climbs into the bed. Rei puts the shirt on, then
lays back and pulls Shinji up close to her. After a
moment Rei proceeds to find the bucket for puking and
begins to fall off the bed, when Shinji grabs her
waist to keep her from falling.
"Thank you, Ikari."
"Your welcome, Ayanami."
Rei pulls Shinji closer and gives him a light kiss.
Soon, she has fallen asleep for the final time that
night, Shinji soon follows suit.

The next morning, Misato is on her way to the kitchen,
when she stops by Shinji's room to check up on the
pair inside. Pen-pen soon joins Misato in the
doorway. Quietly, she comments "They look so
peaceful, don't they Pen-pen?" The only response
Misato gets is a questionable look from the penguin.
The two pilots are soon woken by the sound of Pen-Pen
squawking at them from the doorway. Surprised, Shinji
yells out "Angel Attack!!"
Misato could only laugh. 'Well, they were peaceful.'
After a few moments, Rei gets out of the bed and
stretches her arms, lifting her tee shirt a few inches
and showing off part of her lower anatomy in the
process, thus causing Shinji to turn red.
A moment later, Misato makes her presence known to the
two pilots. "Morning Rei, Shinji."
"Good Morning, Major Katsuragi."
"Morning, Misato."
"How do you feel, Rei?"
"I�have a headache."
"That's to be expected, considering how much you drank
last night�" Misato pauses to get a better look at
the scene in front of her. "Shinji, why were you and
Rei in the same bed together?"
"She asked me to sleep next to her."
"It is true, Major Katsuragi. But it did not go beyond
sleeping."
"But I thought I�" Misato starts to say something on
the subject but decides that it's best to leave the
situation alone. "Rei, I need you to take some pills
with a glass of water, it should help with your
hangover some."
"Hai."
"Shinji, how about you find something for Rei to wear,
then go get some breakfast, you too Rei."
"Hai, Misato."
"Hai."
Misato is about to head to the kitchen when Rei calls
her, "Major Katsuragi, what about my clothes."
"I'll stop by your apartment before going in today and
pick up some clothes for you. Don't worry about the
synch test either, I had Ritsuko cancel it."
'Although, the cost was a little high.'
"Hai."

As Shinji climbs out of bed, Misato heads to the
kitchen to grab a beer and perform her trademark early
morning ritual.
As soon as Misato is out of earshot, Rei speaks up
"Ikari?"
"Hai?"
"Thank you�"
Shinji is confused as to what Rei is talking about.
"�Thank you for caring about me, and not becoming one
with me last night."
Warmly, he replies "You're welcome, Ayanami."
'Thank you�words I rarely use, words of gratitude,
words I have only used for Ikari.'

As the two pilots head to the kitchen, Misato passes
by Shinji's room, when her eye catches sight of the
bucket next to Shinji's bed, and the bluish-green
liquid inside it, she notices a musty smell in the
room as well.
To herself "What the hell?.."

Misato begins to say something on the subject but

Misato turns to find Shinji, and a bulge in his pants,
and starts laughing. Still laughing, Misato starts to
head to the kitchen when Rei calls her, "Major
Katsuragi, what about my clothes."
"I'll stop by your apartment before going in today and
pick up some clothes for you. Don't worry about the
synch test either, I had Ritsuko cancel it."
'Although, the cost was a little high.'
"Hai. And Shinji�" The boy turns around, only to find
Rei, well, looking at the bulge in his pants.
Realising this, Shinji turns bright red and scuttles
over to the bathroom.
'What did that beer do to Rei??'

As Shinji returns to his room he finds that Rei is
crying again. He sits down beside her and pulls her
into an embrace similar to the one the night before.
"Ikari?"
"Hai?"
"Thank you."
Shinji is confused as to what Rei is talking about.
"Thank you for caring about me, and not becoming one
with me last night."
Shinji warmly responds with "You're welcome, Ayanami."
'Thank you�words I rarely use, words of gratitude,
words I have only used for Ikari.'
Rei spoke up again, "Maybe some other time......" To
this, Shinji froze.
The two stayed that way for a few moments.
'Whatever the beer did to Ayanami I like it!'

What was that strange bluish-green liquid next to Rei
and in the bucket, it isn't what you think, lets just
say Rei was not aware of all of NERVS projects (even
the ones involving her). In this timeline Rei has some
of the memories from her past self. I decided to write
Rei getting "drunk" so quickly because she has not had
beer or sake before, so the effect it would have on
her body would be different, that�s why she woke up so
quickly. Last, no, Rei and Shinji did not do IT.
I will try to put out new parts on a monthly basis,
but my time is limited right now. I plan on
stretching this series out into 10 chapters plus an
epilogue, it won't be easy but I'll do my best.

where Omake 1 came from) And for the MST he wrote on
