I agree that people should link large files to web pages. However, it should be
noted that not everyone has access to a web site from which they could link their
fan fics. For those people, they should break up the story into files that are
easier to handle.

Recieving several 150+ K messages in one day is just a BIT much.

    Especially recieving a 277k (?!?) message!

It took me twelve tries this morning to get my mail. Agreed, this is
mostly because I have a crappy mail server (Verio sucks, BTW), but it never
has any problems with under 150k messages.

Folks, I'd really love it (and I'm pretty sure others would too) if,
when you're going to post a message that's bigger than 150k, you first break
it into two or three (or more, if needed) pieces.

I can clearly recall when Juno subscribers were begging and pleading to
cut messages into blocks no larger than 60k, because that was the limit
for Juno. My response then was 'Tough luck, get a better email account'.

I have a new response. If your fic is over, let's say 150k, don't post it
in one chunk or three chunks or at all. Post a link. I know the list
server will runs faster if you do, my hosting service will yell at me
less, and people who aren't all that interested in your fic (and I mean no
insult by that, but not everyone reads every fic) won't have to go through
the trouble of downloading it.

It used to be that if you couldn't keep up with the FFML, then you
shouldn't be on it. As it grows, however, it's the FFML having trouble
keeping up. Twoflower heard a rumor that 'Majordomo' choked recently.
Well, no... we've been using Listar for nearly two years. And it had no
problems with a certain recent high-traffic poster. It was my internet
link that choked.

So please, post links for large fics. If it's large enough that you
wonder if it should be broken apart, it's large enough that we'd be
grateful if you linked it instead.
