The first issue of Spiderman was before electronic fund transfers were
as popular as they are now. In addition, US banks are not
anonymity-friendly...but Minako wouldn't use US banks. She has the
opposite end of this spectrum available to her: Swiss banks.
If Sailor V were to be paid in some form of bank system someone might
realize that they could try to track her funds and would see that it keeps
getting syphoned off somewhere else. I assume a hacker could then find
out to whom the money ultimately goes...
On the other hand, I believe Japanese workers are paid in cash (in an
envelope) instead of a check. Makes for easier covering of tracks.
We see an instance of this in the 'Oh! My Goddess' OAVs when Keiichi is
working to get money to buy Belldandy's ring.
