Ah. A Ninja Scroll fic. Don't get too many of those.
This fanfiction takes place after the events in the movie,
"Ninja Scroll". Those who have not seen the movie may wish
to skip this story, as there are references to events in the
movie which may not make sense. Also, this may also be a
*spoiler* to those who do plan on watching the anime, as
plot points are referenced as well.

Then but a pale shade of the movie then. :)

"How many?" the short, pudgy shadow whispered to his
companion.
"I count five. One on horseback." the

"And are they all... guilty?" the short, pudgy shadow,
known as Iron Grip, asked. His knuckles whitened as he
gripped his long iron chain tightly.
"No... only the four on foot."
his companion, Glass Jaw said. His name was indicative for a number of
reasons. :)
heard the rumors that this outpost was robbing the
merchants. He will not find any evidence though, and can
do nothing. We wait until the good Captain is gone, and
shall perform our own justice upon them."
Interesting. Blurs the image between the good and the bad here.
"Ok Eagle,

just four Guards. No problem." Grip rolled
onto his back, staring up at the setting sum,

"The captain has left!" Eagle whispered, his companion
rolling back over and readying himself. The slender man
raised a hand to stop him. "Hold! A traveler approaches the
outpost."
"A merchant?"
"No... it looks to be a wanderer."
Jubei then.
Eagle replied, deep in
thought. Nodding to himself, he began to crawl through the
grass toward the outpost. "We wait... to see if they cause
the traveler any trouble. If so, we'll have them
red-handed..."
Of course, assuming it is Jubei, it's not the guards who will have
troubles. :)
Suddenly unnerved, the swordsman quickly lifted his
blade, its tip barely a hair's width from Jubei's neck.
More than enough time for Jubei to detach the man's hand from the rest of
him then. :)
"Drop the sword!" the swordsman demanded.
Jubei dropped his sword to his side, but continued
staring at the swordsman, unblinking. The traveler felt
security as the string connecting the sword's hilt to his
wristband pulled taught.

The mercenary quickly pulled his forearm back, activating
his wristband. Jubei's sword flew from the bowman's hands,
towards its owner. Catching the hilt as it reached him,
and, in the same motion, the traveler swung his sword in
front of him, batting the surprised swordsman's blade from
his neck and drawing a thin line of blood across the Guard's
throat.
hmm. Judging by his attack on the regular bandits at the start of NS, I
doubt if Jubei would kill any of these morons. It's painfully obvious
they're no real threat to him.
They may be dishonorable... Jubei thought as he snapped
his sword forward, knocking the Guard's spear harmlessly
wide... but they sure are well trained!
I doubt if they're well trained enough to give Jubei a hard time, or they
wouldn't be wasted at a remote outpost. Remeber this is the same man who,
after fighting the Eight Devils of Kimone for a couple of days was still
able to dispatch between fifty to a hundred normal ninjas in the running
city fight. True, he was hacked off at the time, but still.
Damn! The bowman! Jubei thought to himself, annoyed that
he could have forgotten a potential.
potential what? Threat?
"To the base of the Fallen Angels", Eagle replied.
"Underneath the city of Obi-Oni. See that large tree trunk
up ahead?"
Jubei nodded. He could barely make it out.

A coughing fit overtook Jubei as reached the bottom of
the ladder. The air was thick with soot. Unable to see,
Jubei felt his way out of the hole, crawling. Wiping his
eyes clear, the mercenary stood up, amazed at what he saw.

Have trouble accepting Jubei would have such difficulty dispatching four
normal guards in such a manner, but I can see your desire to have some
tension in the fight. Still, you'll have to improve the quality of the
opposition in order to make future fights convincing.
