Nice.  Not sure I cared for the ending all that much, although
you'd be hard put to justify putting this story on _this_ list
without it.

Very evocative, I thought.  An effective description of your
main character's thoughts, especially the following?

It was real, thought Edward Kilcain. It was real. Did it know 
he was going to leave? Was it saying goodbye? Would it come
back again, if he were to
leave a journal entry for his great-grandchild to find?

Edward Kilcain did not know. All he knew was that tomorrow, 
he would be in Glasgow. Perhaps one day, he could return,
or his family could return, on vacation or even to take up
the old family business again.  And when they did....
