Author's Notes: Well here we go again, the first of 4 new story lines from
moi. Anyways, I don't think the title spoils it too much. *tee hee*
Anyone wanna be a pre-reader and help me out with grammar, spelling, and
style before I post these things? Write me privately if you do.
Thanks.

He stood on a hill under a warm sun the wind whipped his pigtail over his
shoulder and all was green and fresh. Above him an eagle cried out. It
sliced through the air and took up a hovering position balancing with it's
great wings on the gusting winds. It seemed to study him for a time then
something caught it's attention and it banked steeply catching an updraft
and sailed away.

He watched it go then turned slightly to look behind him and saw them
come.

A herd of horses crested the neighboring rise, their approach silent
before he felt the ground underneath him start to tremble with their
passing.

They came as a flood their coats gleaming in the sun; reds, browns,
blacks, whites, dusty roans, glimmering golds, sterling silvers they came.
Some with marks of white on their faces and legs, they came.
Their nostrils flared red as they came their chests expanding with the
great gulps of air they channeled in and still they came.
Manes and tails of every color and hue streamed and flowed in the air like
banners as they came.

The deep bellowing roaring neighs of the stallions sounded and the lighter
squealing replies of the mare chorus replied.

He stood entranced by their power and majesty a small insignificant thing
that stood as witnesses to this glorious exhibition of sovereignty.

Suddenly he realized that the herd was charging up the hill HE was
standing on. Curiously this thought didn't fill him with the expected
terror just wonder and excitement.

They charged up the hill in a wedge like formation, fanning out looking
for purchase for their flying hooves.

Again the stallions bellowed; screaming out to the boy who stood before
them. They swept past him, his body becoming lost within the straining
mass of equine bodies. The sweet sharp smell of their sweat, the deep rich
smell of earth, and the tang of salt filled the air.

He turned so his back was to the herd he watched them as they galloped
down the hill, his body still surrounded. His soul wept with yearning and
he found himself running within the herd. For all his power and speed it
was nothing compared to the thundering of the hooves around him.

Again the stallions screamed out like klaxons and he answered with a
primitive yell of his own throwing back his head, his joy at being with
the herd paramount. He had come home. He was accepted and one with the
herd.

He reached within himself looking for more speed, more power, more!
His human shell wavered then warped changing it's shape taking on a
physical form that was more suited to the speeds that he was asking it to
perform.

His hooves struck the ground, dug in, and flung up great clods of earth.
His nostrils flared and drank in the wind and the scents of the other
horses around him. His ears flickered forwards and back catching every
whuff, squeal, scream, and neigh as he ran on.
His long black mane streamed out behind him as he screamed the stallion
scream. His body flowed forwards, his great strides gobbling up the ground
and he soon found himself close to the front of the herd.

They wheeled slightly their course altered toward the ribbon of white blue
water. With glad cries they plunged from the bank and dove into the water.
It wasn't deep, only up to the chest but cold and bracing.

Resounding snorts as some unfortunates got water in their noses blasted
here and there throughout the herd.

He felt the change sweep through his new equine body. The broad chest
narrowed slightly, the crest of his neck smoothed out, the head became
more dainty; he loss mass. Lighter and swifter now with a reddish mane
and tail the mare raced along with her herd mates.
She joined in on the mare chorus gladly. The joy of being free and with
friends and those who loved her squashing the revulsion she felt with her
sudden change in gender.

The thunder of the herd, the reverberation of their hooves, and their glad
cries as they ran on over the plain echoed in her mind...

Ranma's eyes snapped open. He blinked a few times but the room was dark
and the familiar sound of a panda snoring reassured him that he was in the
room he shared with his old man.
"Wow!" he sighed. "No more of Akane's chicken curry for me before
bedtime." he muttered softly.

He rolled over away from his father-turned-panda and pulled the quilt over
himself. He felt hot and slightly sweaty; such a powerful dream.
'What could it mean?' he wondered. 'Heh...it certainly was weird...all
those horses...'

He yawned and curled up in a slight fetal position. 'What a nightmare...'
He snorted softly. Mare....nightmare...hehe.
He cleared his mind and fell back asleep.
