out from under the pail.

Sasami and Washu turned to each other, then back at the drenched
Grandfather.

"Uhhhh... happy Tenchi's birthday?"

---

Tenchi would have probably shook his head at him, but he was trying to
keep quiet inside the laundry hamper while Ryoko and Ayeka prowled the
house.

He promised to himself to never mention that birthdays were celebrated
every year.

The bundle under him wiggled. "Mreow?"

---

Just wanted to poke fun. So nothing happened when I turned 21. Call it
wishful thinking.

By the by, reading TR's "A Soul Forever Voyaging" made me think: what
about a Lain/Truman Show mix?

Damn. I was really hoping that they'd show "Being John Malkovich". Now
I have to wait for it to come out on tape. Duh.

---

They met in the dark of the dining room.

"What are you doing here?" the taller one hissed.

"Me? I was getting myself a midnight snack. What are you doing up so
late?"

"I, uh, was going to go over some reports..." She struck a pose after
some thought. "You, on the other hand, should be sleeping early so that
you can be ready for tomorrow's drills."

"We're having drills tomorrow? I really better get to bed now." The
half-German deftly made her way back to the door and slid it open. It
quickly shut behind her.

The Major watched the door to the room of her female ward for a few more
moments, then she snuck out the door.

Asuka slid the door open once more. She noted the disappearance of
Misato, and made her own preparations.

---

"Huh?" He turned around, and she was there. "Mommy!"

"Yes, honey," she sweetly said as he looked into those blood red eyes.

---

"Whoa" was all he said as he fairly leapt to a sitting position in the
darkness of his room. It was still there, most of Tokyo-3 was still
there, most of the earth was still there.

Where did that come from?

He stared at the watch on the desk - and yiped.

"I'm late!" He quickly pulled off the sheets and hoped that Asuka wasn't
going to harangue him today - not today, of all days - for not being able
to get breakfast started in time for school.

He pulled on his uniform, took a short moment to compose himself, then
opened the door.

The lights were open.

Which was odd, unless Misato was actually going to be called off for some
duty or another that his father would be asking for. A moment later, he
did locate Misato - dozing softly next to a long cooled pot of meat and
vegetables and slightly drooling over an open recipe book.

What was odder was that Asuka was still not up. If he had checked her
room, which he hadn't, he would've seen her sleeping under an open lamp
next to a small figurine of a boy.

"That's odd," he noted. Then the doorbell rang.

He went to the door, opened it, and gasped.

"Ayanami!" On a schoolday, no less.
