Moderators please forgive this transgression...

Authorfs Notes:  Ifve never seen a fic that dealt with Ranma and the world of Mixed-Martial Arts/Shootfighting.  It would seem logical that a person like Ranma, who relies heavily on magic/ki and flashy kicks and punches for his offense, would be completely lost in a UFC type match-up, and thus would get destroyed.  My apologies for any OOC that you  may not have appreciated.  But then, this wasnft written by Takahashi or the TV writers, so anything I have them do is automatically OOC.

Maybe so.  But you have missed many things grasshopper.

1.  Ranma trained in China, so his total style goes well beyond flashy kicks
of Karate and Tae Kwon Do.

2. Kung Fu (Wu Shu, Wing Chun, Chi Kung, and varients there of) enmploy
wonderful ground fighting techniques and grappling techniques.  Trust me.
They hurt.  A lot.

3. In Japan alone there is Judo which has a whole set of ground fighting
techniques that Ranma has more than likely studied.

4. Aikido has amazingly wonderful grapple, lock and throw techniques...all
set for a defensive fight.

5. Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do (developed by Bruce Lee, based on Wing Chun Kung Fu)
is fast.  You don't think that a master of this style could drop the Gracies
with that speed.  Ok then. Imagine a punch that comes at you faster than you
can register...no time to block or dodge or what have you.  And this is
still slower than the true master.  I have seen tapes on the Gracies... they
aren't fast enough to stop this.

6. Have you actually seen how fast the kicks by Kyokushin Karate champs?
It's fast, and strong enough to break bricks, so just imagine bones.

While the Gracie's Jujitsu style is nice, and use in shootfighting/ UFC, no
one who is a "true" expert martial artist would bother with that butcher
match.  So the people who could give the Gracies some whopass, won't...they
have nothing to prove.  As some people have written in fanfics, the true
essence of martial arts is not beating your enemey with your fists.  Martial
arts is something much deeper and spiritual, something that is a way of
life, not a sport or a hobby.

Specifically stylistically.  I don't like Gracie Jujitsu.  I don't like
Karate, particularly Kyokushin.  Nor do I care much for Tae Kwon Do.  They
are too limited, and leave glaring weaknesses in their style.  They (Gracie
not included) don't allow for improvisation, and force its students into
patterns and forms which form a routined pattern that can easily be found by
your opponent.

Kung Fu styles have the advantage of more flexible in style and form, but
they too are still too restricted.  Bruce Lee saw this and addressed the
problems in Kung Fu...which bred his style.  In a fair open fight with
students of relatively equivelent levels *in their styles*@(not compared to
each other), Kung Fu would win, and by a lot.  Karate teaches no grappling,
particuarly Kyokushin looks like a DBZ fight.  You sit and pound on each
other, block occasionally until one man goes down. No feign, dodging , etc.
Tae Kwon Do differs little.  And specifically Chi Kung Kung Fu students
would hurt their opponent...badly.  Training in the style builds an
incredible endurance, resistance to pain, and a great level of chi/ki and
the ablility to use it well.

Aikido has its flaws in pacifity.  But so that goes.  Overal the use of
chi/ki is amazing.  It's equal is Tai Chi (Taikyokuken in japanese).
Neither use any strength (if you are good), and rely on the use of ones
chi/ki entirely for all moves.  The grandson of the founder, Uchida (I think
is his name) is visitng the University here and giving some lessons.  Of
course...he's GOOD.  Their flaw is as the saying goes.. "sometimes the best
defense is a good offense."

And yes Mary chi/ki is real, and it doesn't feel good to be hit with.  (chi
in chinese, ki in Japanese, but they are the same thing)
