This has improved considerably since the first installments. You're actually
managing to give at least some detail to the events that deserve it. The end
was touching as well, and it probably marks the first truly diabolical

Deliberately so. As I said, 'twas, among other things, a link from
SatAM to the games, but I also wanted to leave it the way I came in. I
basically started it on a "dare", written in the disclaimer of someone
else's fic (Postcards From Mobius #2) which inspired the first few
chapters:
If
anyone wishes to refer to anything that they may find
in my stories in one of their own, that is their
business, but as my stories are specifically designed
to stand outside the usual run of Sonic fiction it
would probably not work very well.
In the spirit of returning the karma I borrowed (or something like
that), I intentionally set up the last one so that other authors, should
they wish, could write sequels to this - and others still would write
sequels to that, and so on. A few have done so, at least so far as
using the characters and events in their own stories.
I also wanted to give it some finality, at least from my end. This was
my first posted-to-the-'Net fanfic (no, really: check the copyright on
the first chapter - 1996), and took me almost three years to go from
start to finish (which explains the quality improvements you noticed).
I was ready for something else by the time I wrote the last chapter;
only my readers kept me from abandoning the series outright.
