Prolog
On the space station Hermes witch was newly sent to orbit Earth, things where just as normal for the maintenance crew, work work and more work.
Seven space-suited figures were working whit repairing one of the stations solar panels.
*I give up!* One of the space suited figures suddenly bursted out over the radio.
*Who the hell came up with this idea of volunteering for space-duty?!*
His co-workers looked at each other and you could almost see that they were smiling.
*Actually, this was your idea Jones my man.*
*NOT," Jones snapped. "I would never have-*
*Well, who's the boss around here then?* his companion asked sweetly
*I am, and if you think that I would do something like this-*
*YOU BLOODY WELL WOULD* the other six workers shouted, then they started laughing.
*Why you....*Jones realized that he had lost the argument. *Get back to
work!* he snapped.
Then, one of the workers stopped laughing. He looked over Jones' shoulder at
something behind the crew chief. Jones noticed this and since he was eager to
change the subject, he asked, *Takashi, what's wrong?*
*Look chief, About three o'clock. There is something there.*
Everyone stopped laughing and turned to look.
*What the Hell is that?* asked Jones as he stared in the direction Takashi
had indicated. He tapped the comm button on the sleeve of his spacesuit.
*Bridge! This is Work-Team 5, Chief Jones speaking. We have something out
here, you got anything on sensors?*
(Are you kidding Jones?) Came the angry answer (Nothing could get in visible range without us knowing it!)
*Then you better give us a vacation or check this out yourselves, because it's there and I think it is coming this way! *
(All right Jones, I'll look....) There was several seconds of silence. Then,
the voice came back. (Like I told ya, there is nothing on the sensors.)
*Then come out here yourself and look at it, man because it looks big. *
Jones was now sounding worried.
The Station-commander entered the bridge, "What's going on?"
"Nothing Sir, just Work-Team 5 says that they see some thing that doesn't show on the sensors, nothing important sir"
"There is no 'Nothing important sir' around here" said the commander with a hint of anger in his voice. He turned to one of other tech's , "Can I get a window-view of what they think they are seeing?"
"Yes sir, right this way"
30 seconds later
The two men stopped by a big window in the station's mess hall.
"Here sir"
The commander took up his portable radio:
(Jones, where is it?)
Before Jones could answer he saw it.
"Oh my GOD!!!"
*It's coming right for us, * Jones said, his voice strangely calm.
"What can we do?" one of his rookie workers asked.
*Pray really hard, * Jones replied.
As the object came closer, various cameras and other instruments
managed to get a visual lock on the object.
"What the hell is it?" The commander asked the computer screen.
His second in command answered, "It looks like an old satellite sir, but it
is too big and too streamlined for it to be a satellite. I've never seen
anything like it."
"The only thing I am worried about is: Will it hit us?" the commander said.
He turned to one of the computer techs. "Well?" he said this time a little
harder.
The tech's hands started flying around on the keyboard. After a few seconds
he looked relived and said: "No sir, it will pass us." Everyone on the
station seemed to draw a sigh of relief at the same time.
"Good," was all the commander said.
Suddenly, one of the men almost shouted, "Wait a minute, if it will pass us,
won't it hit the Earth?"
"Where?" shouted the commander.
The tech jerked upright once more and started typing. When his result came up
on the screen, he looked pale. "I think it's going to hit Megatokyo, sir"
"Where in Megatokyo!?"
"This is a new system for me sir. I don't know."
The commander looked like he was going to punch the tech, but instead he
snapped at another man:" Get me a line to Earth. We have got to warn them!"
"Yes sir, but don't you think they have already seen it?"
"DID WE SEE IT?" The commander bellowed. "NOW GET ME THAT DAMNED LINE!"
All the workers of Team 5 could do was watch as the 'satellite'
flew past, missing their station by a safe distance.
*Megatokyo eh?* Jones said. He'd listen to the entire conversation in the
command center, as the commander had forgotten to cut the transmission to
Jones' suit. *All who hopes that it hits the Genom building say, 'Aye!'*
*Aye!* the group said as one.
The object was now starting to glow red as it entered Earth's atmosphere,
keeping its course on Japan and Megatokyo.]
