Hi all. I was lucky enough to have seen End of Evangellion last year
and it has been playing on my mind recently so I thought that I'd write
up an idea that's set around the Third Impact to see whether it is
something that will work, it's just an idea I had, took me half an hour
to write, so it may not appeal to everyone. If you have any thoughts or
comments on the idea, please, by all means E-mail me. I'm also intrested
in any ideas on where I could take this.
Evangellion is owned and copyrighted by Gainex.
Major spoilers ahead. If you haven't seen all the episodes and
movies, I suggest you stop reading now. The emotional blow that this
deals out will be easier on those who have seen everything that has
happened.
The Showstoppa.
Death:Reroute.
Secret experiments conducted after the Third Impact, like in before,
and the course of history has been changed forever.
Or has it? It was funny how in some cases you prefer the existence you
choose to change, she pondered, as she recalled what she had just done.
Maya, a voice over her shoulder said. She turned around, half
expecting to see her Sempai, Dr Ritsuko Akagi, but there stood a
bespectacled man she had gotten acquainted with, Dr Leo Swan, a studier
of Albert Einstein. Its time. Dr Swan sat down in a rather
complicated looking chair.
Are you sure you want to do this? Maya asked. Dr Swan looked at her,
apparently curious.
Maya, of all the people I know, youre the least, shall we say
predisposed towards death. Weigh it up, one man against six billion,
which would you prefer? It was a rhetorical question, so he pressed on.
Besides, were not even going to kill him, Im as against killing as
you are. Iwere just going to keep him from accomplishing his goals.
Sempai, Maya began, but Dr Swan cut her off.
Your Dr Akagi will be around when weve done this, dont worry about
that. Dr Swan wondered what happened to her in the first place.
She was shot, but she came back to get me, Maya said. She should be
here. Swan nodded.
Yes. Maybe you two went your separate ways.
What are you saying?
Youre aware of what she did, arent you? Swan had gotten an earful
from most everyone who knew Rei about how Akagi killed all of them, save
one, and had no regrets about it. Look, Ritsuko will be here after we
complete this. Youll have to get to know each other, again, but shell
be fine. Swan leaned back in his chair. No rush. Maya doubtfully went
over the final safety checks, wondering if she was making the right
decision. Swan looked like he wasnt sure, either.
Stand by, Maya said. Swans muscles stiffened as Maya hit a few
switches, and a bright light engulfed the room, then, nothing.
Maya Ibuki. Jeez, I was lucky to get her to agree with this. Swan was
getting the edgy, and was tempted to just forget everything and
disappear.
NO! he said to himself, far too loudly. This was too important, hed
seen what the Second Impact was like, and technically he died when NERV
was overtaken by SEELE, in an event know as the Third Impact. He
reminded himself that he just had to find one member of the research
team to accomplish his task. If he could find the Devil behind
everything that had happened in the first place, then even better. He
knew that he didnt have a lot of time; he would be back with Maya in a
matter of minutes. Swan pondered the possibility of taking one of the
researchers, Gendou Ikari, who was calling himself Rykubungi at the
time, to the future to see what he was about to do. But from what hed
heard, Gendou wouldnt care.
Speak of the Devil, Swan said to himself, the fog in his breath
reminding him how cold it was at Cape Horn, he was freezing, so numb,
but he only had to pass on a few words to Gendou, then he could go back
to Maya, he could just curl up in front of a fire and read, sipping tea.
A simple life, he admitted, but unless the future they were to change
had a problem with that, hed be reading Shakespeare in five minutes.
Maya, what would she do? Go looking for her Sempai, he figured.
Gendou? Swan called out. The taller man turned and looked at him.
What is it? Hurry up.
I just got word from Antarctica, the weather is getting too much
there, they advise against anyone going in. You ever been to Antarctica
before?
No.
Well you wont survive, its been called, the operation has been
scrubbed. Make sure you tell everyone, okay? Gendou looked uncertain.
Its fine here. A beeper went off, reminding Swan that he only had a
minute left.
The USS Enterprise battle carrier group are patrolling in these
waters, they say its going to take an icebreaker to get through.
Get an icebreaker then, Gendou said.
Thats not all. An arctic submersibles down there. They say that its
dropped past the one hundred mark.
Its one hundred degrees below zero?
Yeah. You think its cold here, well; you can have yourself
cytogenetically frozen just by taking a shower. Here, Ill tell everyone
I can that its too dangerous and its been cancelled, you do the same,
okay? Gendou reluctantly agreed. Swan excused himself and ran off into
the crowd. He ducked down as a blinding flash filled the room.
Dr Frankensteins laboratory, Maya said to herself wistfully. She
wondered about her Sempai, what would she be like if this works? Would
she be as, would they see eye-to-eye more? They had differing views on a
number of cases; one she recalled was the Dummy Plug system. Maya wasnt
convinced, but Ritsuko, she acted as if she didnt care. Maya was
thinking about her new friends who did, or she should say would care
about the moralities concerning the use of the Dummy Plug when there was
a blinding flash. Maya looked at the chair, where Dr Swan sat once
again.
Did it work? she asked. Dr Swan still felt numb, but there was also a
feeling of guilt, which only added to his numbness.
It worked.
What about Commander Ikari? Swan wondered if it had worked. He
decided to feed Maya the best-case scenario.
Adam, he paused, looking into Mayas eyes so that shed know that she
was talking about the first Shi-to, isout of the way. It took a
moment for Maya to digest this information.
So, the Second Impact wont happen, she said softly. It was to be
hoped, if Leo was able to stop Gendou from going to Antarctica.
Time will tell. Maya felt as if the words were spoken in her head.
Sooner or latertime will tell.
