Title: Ascent of the Fallen
Chapter: Part Two: "Nevertheless, I have somewhat against thee..."
Series: Evangelion
Genre: Action, drama, suspense, some WAFF
Author: Sparky Clarkson

Archived At: http://members.tripod.com/Sage_Ohlmin/ascent/ascent.htm
Date Sent to FFML: May 17, 2000
Series Summary:
In the darkest hour, a light from heaven brings new hope. Mankind's
once -bleak future now offers a glimmer of promise. Yet humanity's
protectors must battle not only the angels from above, but also dark
forces from within. An ancient evil seeks to use their greatest hope
as its key to power. Unless the Evangelion pilots can use their own
inner strength to defeat the overwhelming odds, all will be
destroyed. Can mankind survive the ascent of the fallen?
Episode Summary:
confronts her personal demon. Shinji's relief is short-lived, however,
for he must face overwhelming odds in battle. Best-laid plans go awry
as a rebellious dummy plug ruins not only SEELE's attack, but also
Gendo's attempt to initiate Third Impact. Shinji, still deeply
troubled, goes to Kaoru's apartment... and an unlooked-for reunion...
Wow. Something got replaced with a hard return up there.
Not that it matters. I get the gist, and this installment was pretty cool,
all things considered. Nice to see Gendo doesn't have a monopoly on
behind-the-scenes manipulation; I've read the whole story already, so I know
what will come of Rei eating Adam, and exactly _what_ happened with the
dummy plug, but you've dropped enough hints to make guesses likely while
still keeping enough unknown to make guesses possible.
The... transformations, for lack of a better term, that the EVA cast is
going through are, at the least, justified by the story; whether some folks
have or will take umbrage at them is probably pretty likely, but I
understood them.
And I think I'm starting to understand the story, the second time through.

Title: Garden of EVA
Chapter: 2:4 - Misato Blows!
Series: Evangelion
Genre: Alternate Universe
Author: Jim Lazar
Email: jimlazar@earthlink.net
Homepage: http://home.earthlink.net/~jimlazar/anime
Date Sent to FFML: 5/19/2000
Series Summary:
Take 5 minutes from episode 26 and make it into a continuing series?
No way! Can't be done! What if I put a VR Eva game in and lots of
hormone driven teenagers talking about sex? Not enough? How about a
love triangle? Ah, now that I have your attention:
Episode Summary:
Just what could go wrong with a world where Misato is a nice normal
teenagers? Well for one thing, she should have been more specific when
she asked for a kind and obedient Kaji.
...you know, after twenty-odd (very odd) episodes, you'd think this would
get old. And in some respects, it is. There's enough new twists on the old
twisted story to make it something less than a carbon copy, but I found
myself thinking "Not _this_ again" at several places. Read it if you just
want to kill some time, but don't mistake it for anything serious or with
character development.

Title: The Gods Within
Series: Evangelion
Genre: Elseworlds/superheroic(?)
Author: Scriviner
Email: ebon@i-manila.com.ph
Homepage: http://www.geocities.com/scriviner/
Date Sent to FFML: 5/18/00
Series Summary:
What would you do when you find out that something that happened
around the time you were born gave you the power to shape reality?
What if you found out you weren't alone? What if they were after you
because of it? Let's not even mention the things that're trying to
destroy the world.
Don't believe what they tell you. Reality is yours.
Episode Summary:
Come to Tokyo. Meet new people, learn new things, get to wear a
skin-tight costume while you run around at super-speed. That's okay,
though. Your new mom seems nice. Kinda.
Be nice to have an episode number. No, really, it would.
...okay, how much prozac did you give Ritsuko to have her act like this?
Seriously.
But other than that, it's a very interesting depiction of superpowers at
work. And what the plugsuits are over here, and where the powers come from,
and a whole lot of background that I really didn't mind having at all.
And SuperShinji is still intrinsically funny, I'm sorry.
It _is_ really interesting to see what's changed in Shinji now that he can
actually, y'know, _do_ things. And one wonders exactly _what_ Rei is like
around him if nudity really isn't a big deal.
Eagerly awaiting more installments.

Series Summary:
The next generation of the Nerima Wrecking Crew faces problems old and
new along the rocky road to romance.
Episode Summary:
The cast continues to gather. Keiichi meets his dreamgirl, Ti-Pi
challenges Kobuta (oh, those rascally Amazons...) and the cousins Kuno
have an argument.
Hmm. Okay, other than the fact that Ukyo and Mousse's kid (I _did_ peg her
right, didn't I?) seems to be just a little too much like a binary fusion of
her parents, this is moving along very nicely. So when are you going to stop
setting up the dominoes and start knocking them over, hmm? No offense to the
status quo, as it's certainly interesting enough, but there really hasn't
been all that much _happening_ yet.

Title: Mixed Signals
Chapter: 15
Series: Ranma
Genre: Comedy/Drama
Author: Kent Hyam
E-mail: rodney.hyam@sk.sympatico.ca
Date Sent to FFML: 05/13/00
Size: 30 Kbs
Series Summary:
The sequel to Crossed Wires. Ranma's hoping that his life will get
back to normal, but Happosai's return makes this unlikely.
Episode Summary:
The conclusion to the series. Will everyone regain their rightful
bodies, or will Happosai's plan succeed? Meanwhile, things get even
more confused.
Aw. You fixed everything? That's no fun. But I imagine this is only the lull
time before everything starts swinging back toward chaos again. Can't really
say anything more than that; there were a few interesting bits in this, but
nothing that really captured my attention. Maybe because my brain was so
busy working overtime trying to keep everyone straight that I just figured
out the plot twists before they happened... I'm like that, sometimes.
Ah well, looking forward to the next bit of insanity.

Title: Shantyworld
Chapter: Chapter 4, Freetraders
Series: Ranma 1/2
Genre: Alternate Universe
Author: William Morse
Email: montanto@hotmail.com
Date Sent to FFML: May 18, 2000
FFML Archive Number:
Size: 42k
Series Summary:
Far away in a distant future the human species is irrelivant. Don't
ask when this takes place, we use the Governors' calander. Don't ask
where. Does this sound opressive to you? Don't worry. The Governors
believe in freedom. Provided you do as your told. In this time the
armadas of two great empires, the Oni and the Jurai, gather on the
Governors' Ports located on the moon of a gas giant to prepare for the
latest battle of their centuries old war. The moon is called Doozy
Sack. Also known as Shantyworld.
Episode Summary:
With the Imperial fleets landing in the Ports can the camp followers
be far behind? The Freetrader Jokutszuko is just one of the thousands
of ships arriving to try to make a share of the proffits. Inside
Captain's Apprentice Shampoo has a problem. She has to loose to the
heir of another ship in order to garner a business alliance. Now she
seeks a patsy .. er . . brave warrior who can beat her in battle,
first before it is too late. Incidentally did I mention Ranko's
discovered she has a problem with hot water?
Ooh. This is another nice adaptation of Ranma, with a few other series
thrown in as well, to a completely alien environment. Half the fun is seeing
the new incarnations; the _other_ half is in following the excellent plot
that's been set up so far. I'm still wondering if the Fisherman and Ruth are
patterned after anyone, perhaps from some series I haven't seen, but the
story itself is _quite_ good. Keep it up.

Title: The Sound of Silence
Chapter: Chapter 2
Series: Ranma 1/2
Genre: Alternate Universe
Author: Donald Mc
Email: drmj1@earthlink.net
Archived At: http://lwf58.tripod.com/fan fiction/donald mc
Date Sent to FFML: May 16, 2000
Series Summary:
During the often dangerous training Genma Saotome gave his son on
their trip something went wrong. Ranma is now mute. How much will
this affect the outcome.
Episode Summary:
Ranma meets Kuno on his first day at Furnkan High.
Agh. It's an interesting premise, and you're doing some interesting things,
but somehow this doesn't seem much like Ranma at all. I'll grant that
actually having to wait before saying something might have taught him to
think about it, but muteness is no barrier to just up and kicking someone's
ass. In other words, this Ranma might actually be _more_ impulsive, not
less. And I _really_ don't get the way Akane's acting toward him; she seems
to be a little too panicked and guessing a little too accurately at Ranma's
mental state. In places, this feels like an episode of Ranma 1/2 where other
people say Ranma's lines. Decent concept, but the execution needs work.

Title: Wheel of Fire
Chapter: #32: Endless Tears
Series: Ranma 1/2
Genre: Continuation
Author: Razorclaw X
Email: spiceoflife@hotmail.com
Homepage: http://www.crosswinds.net/~slythe/ranma/ranff.html
Date Sent to FFML: 5/18/00
Size: 61 kb
Series Summary:
What is a wheel of fire but a spinning flame of eternal chaos? At the
center the flame burns brightest, extending outward to the edges of
the wheel along six spokes, where the flame smolders. Whether the
flame burns bright or not at all, the wheel continues to spin....
Epsiode Summary:
It's Ranma VS Sypha; Akane VS Cinder! Dangerous opponents that appear
to have an answer to everything thrown against them. Ranma and Akane
match power and wits against the most dangerous opponents yet-- so
dangerous that they're smarter than the author....
Exciting? Hell yeah. Cliffhanger? Hell yeah. Fight scene coolness? Hell
yeah. The fight scenes have always been the best part of this series, when
you get right down to it; plots and plans may be really nice and all, but
when all's said and done, Ranma is all about major quantities of rumble, and
minor quantities of plot. This makes for some pretty good reading overall,
so I'd advise you to take a look. Heck, start on the series if you haven't
yet.

Date Sent to FFML: 12 May 00
Archive Number: 10537
Size: 55k
Series Summary:
A continuation (unauthorised) series of Chris Jones' "Curse of
Silence". Akane is mute, having lost both her voice and her mother in
a terrible car accident 10 years before. Genma drags Ranma to the
Tendos for an arranged marriage as planned, but when Ranma and Akane
actually agree to consider the engagement, will it work this time?
Episode Summary:
Ranma's first day at school, and he discovers that life with Akane is
far from serene. And what the hell is up with Kuno?
Wow. This has really improved since the first edition, and it makes a lot
more sense than it did before as well. I really like the story, and the
characterization of Akane, although he's responding to some of her own
verbal barbs and some other situations with a bit too much coherence. But it
does make sense that Ranma would respect someone who both kicked ass and let
him tick his Pop off without even trying. I am definitely looking forward to
the next chapter of this.

Title: Battletech: The Saotome Gambit Part 12
Series: Ranma 1/2 - Battletech

Archived at: http://www.psn.net/~wildeman/TSG-12.txt
Date Sent to FFML: 14 May 2000

Series Summary:
A Ranma 1/2 - Battletech fusion pitting the might of the Furinkan
Combine, the League of Five Nails, and the Jusenkyo Commonwealth
against the beleaguered Nerima Confederation. The only hope for the
Tendo family lies in the hands of two Dispossessed mechwarriors named
Saotome.
Segment Summary:
Nabiki's machinations against her family and her country continue,
General Herb makes Mousse an offer he can't refuse, and the passengers
and crew of the _Dragonfly_ fight for their lives at the end of their
misjump - while Tarou and Happousai continue their deadly feud. All
this and Ukyou eating frosted animal cookies!
Heh. Sometimes, it's the simple things that make a story good. Like frosted
animal cookies. Provided they're the lightly frosted kind and not the
candied-pink-icing-with-gobs-of-rainbow-sprinkles kind.
Other things are simple too. Like, say, fires. And while a martial artist
may occasionally stop to kick another martial artist through a bulkhead now
and again, only the truly pathetic ones bother to keep doing it in the face
of imminent doom.
In other words, good story. Nice melding of the Battletech storyline with
the ordinary Ranma characters... oh 'eck. Just _read_ it. You'll like it.

Series Summary:
With all the impossible occurances that happen in Ranma and Akane's
lives, they discover the one perfect answer for everything:
It's not real. And now... nothing will ever be the same again.
Episode Summary:
Ranma and Akane get their first bittersweet taste of the real world.
Akane is presented with the blunt fact that her 'family' really isn't,
while Ranma's worst fear (other than cats) becomes a cold reality.
Fortunately, they couldn't have asked for better friends to help get
through it. Meanwhile, the agents take a *special* interest in
Ryoga...
Okay. The opening sequence with Ryoga is classic. I _still_ have a slight
beef with the whole bit about Akane's family; Ranma loved her, and I imagine
the people in her family loved her too, so why can't they love her any less?
Nice job on offering Morpheus as perspective. When there are only about five
people in the world, gender roles suddenly become a heck of a lot less
important...
Looking forward to the next chapter.

Author: Douglass Weeks

Date Sent to FFML: May 20, 2000
Summary:
A speculative piece about what the conclusion of Utena might be like,
written after watching the end of the "Black Rose" saga.
Uh... whoa.
Okay, that was hella imagery. I have never seen Utena, and so cannot
reasonably expect to pass judgement on whether what happened here _could_
actually happen after the series ended, but it was damn cool nonetheless. I
enjoyed reading this immensely, because the action was gripping, the
dialogue was well-crafted, the imagery was nothing short of a spectacle, and
the characters and their motives were very touching indeed. I'd recommend
it, but I'm not sure whether what happened could happen within the context
of the series or not...
But it definitely _can_ happen within the context of the story. And for
that, I salute you.

Title: FOX Squadron
Chapter: 2
Series: Robotech
Genre: Continuation
Author: G.L. Sandborn
Email: sandborn@microlink.net
Homepage: www.microlink.net/~sandborn
Date Sent to FFML: May 17, 2000
FFML Archive Number: 10719
Size: 40
Series Summary:
This series takes place beteen the time the SDF-3 (along with Rick
Hunter and Lisa Hayes) has departed for the homeworld of the Robotech
Masters and the rise of the Southern Cross. The world government is
in shambles, militaristic city-states are popping up all over, and
surviving Zentraedi are on both sides. The remaining RDF forces are
all that stand between order and chaos. This is the story of one
squadron. A most unusual squadron, made up of young Lakota women,
loyal Zentraedi females, and assorted outcasts stuck in the worst
sector possible.
Episode Summary:
Things aren't getting any better for Colonel Stuart. He's looking for
the kind of Veritech pilots he had in the past; men. He's not finding
them. To his rescue come a pair of Lakota women, sisters who have
almost 15 years of experience between them. He grudgingly agrees to
accept their help but keeps hidden the real reason he doesn't want
women pilots. Cindy and Ona develop their friedship. Cindy also
discovers Colonel Stuart is not going to remain in command and ponders
ways of keeping him.
Hoo boy, more of this. Lessee.
Okay, Cindy's creepy, the Colonel is getting more flustered by the minute,
and boy have we got character development. How are you going to manage to
give twenty-four (heck, even twelve) people pasts and personality quirks and
still keep them all in the action?
Then again, M*A*S*H managed to do that just fine. Is that what you're trying
for here? If so, I wish you luck and I look forward to future installments,
because M*A*S*H just ruled.
Not that I'm implying anything in terms of plot parallels or character
lifts, even if Colonel Stuart does remind me a bit of Colonel Potter. It's
just that M*A*S*H was a very nice character-driven drama about war, hell,
and the difference between the two, and I like those sorts of stories, and I
like this very much. Keep writing.

Title: The Illusions That We Hold
Series: Rurouni Kenshin
Genre: Drama
Author: Douglass Weeks
Email: weeksdo1@pilot.msu.edu
Homepage: www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Gulf/4127/Welcome.html
Date Sent to FFML: May 20, 2000
Summary:
Kenshin recalls his past during a set of morning exercises, and a side
of the rurouni is revealed that no one else suspects.
Ooh. Kenshin's been possessed by the spirit of E-102 Gamma.
...okay, I can see that went over people's heads. He's a robot that has to
keep blowing things up or his programming will cause him to self-destruct.
Not unlike what's happening with Kenshin.
Gah, but that was creepy. Though of the dozen other "people have dreadful
secrets to hide" stories I've seen, none are quite as believable as this.
Which makes it even creepier. It's amazingly good writing, an excellent look
inside the head of one character, a head which is not quite so full of
spiderwebs and dust as it would seem. Go read.

Episode Summary:
Priestess Morgaine plans for the future, an ancient evil makes her
move, and Gwendolyn meets a very strange cat...
Arth'ur-phil-ip'denu?
Sorry. Old reading habits die hard.
Anyway... well, first off, the accents as you've typed them are rather
grating in my mind's ear, if that makes any sense. It took a few
read-throughs before I started glossing over some of them...
That aside, it's one most excellent alternate vision, and I've got high
hopes for it. Just keep writing, because if the prologue's any indication,
this is going to be one long strange trip.

Date Sent to FFML: 5-20

Summary:
Lina thinks about the unexpected marraige that she had found herself
in, and thinks about annuling it. However, when Towermere tries to
convince her to do just that, Lina rethinks things. But if she decides
to stay married, that leaves an issue to be confronted that night.
Heh. This is quite the interesting story. Though I honestly don't know why
Lina would have any explicit story reason to keep up the facade up when it
was just the two of them. For all Gourry knows...
Then again, there may very well be explicit character reasons that I can't
judge accurately, never having seen the original series. Reena is a very
believable character, certainly, and Towermere is... well, I understand what
he's doing even if I don't understand why he's doing it. Hopefully, this
will become clearer in later installments.
Looking forward to future ones, BTW.

Summary:
Sally loses her speed, Packbell loses his forces, and Antoine loses
his bravery after finding some to lose. But it is Sonic who faces the
worst powerdown of all...
Okay. Good setup, but the execution again falls short. The last half of the
story could easily be twice as long as it is, and nothing would be missed at
all. I appreciate your _trying_ to stick to a half-hour format, but this is
fiction, and there aren't any time limits as far as I know. _Show_, don't
tell. Most of the things listed above are covered a lot to quickly to have
any meaning to the reader before they're resolved.

Summary:
Part 1 of the trilogy "Vengance Denied". Dulcy's anger towards
griffins was thought to be gone, but it resurfaces in Bunnie. Dealing
with it is made difficult by the presence of another griffin, sent to
avenge Kenal's apparent demise at Tails' hands.
Summary:
Part 2 of the trilogy "Vengance Denied". Packbell tricks Sonic into
thinking that he is responsible for the loss of Tails, but someone
else has outwitted both of them to claim her prize.
Summary:
Part 3 of the trilogy "Vengance Denied". The griffins plan to reveal
Knothole's location to Packbell. Tails intends to stop them, but to
do it, he must trust one who would not trust him.
Okay, all three at once since this _is_ all supposed to be one story...
Gad. Keep the tone consistent. If the story's supposed to be dark, let it at
least stay that way for a little while before you toss in a pratfall. The
Sonic continuity is definitely upbeat, but the SatAM continuity is
definitely _less_ upbeat.
The end of the third installment seems to be rather deliberate... you pulled
a bit out of Sonic X-Treme for it, seems like, for which I have to scratch
my head and wonder what you were thinking. Tails is... well, I'll grant he's
changed some over the course of your story, but he's sweeping away plot
points before they have a chance to be suspenseful enough to hold the
reader's attention.

Snively's back, and he has a fate worse than death for Bunnie. To save
her, Kenal must reveal a secret that could cost him his friends...or
rescue his dreams.
Gad. So people knew about this, but didn't really say because...
I'm sorry, it just feels like you're retconning in a new development. Not
that it requires a large amount of stretching prior continuity to _do_, but
I didn't exactly see any evidence aside from Kenal's allusions in earlier
chapters. If you flesh this out, maybe you should consider dropping a few
more hints...

Summary:
Kenal wants run away from Knothole, and Sandra seizes upon an
opportunity. Sonic is sent far away, while Kenal is left to take the
blame for Sandra's latest scheme, and not even Sally can stop her this
time.
Yeah. That's Sandra Nightweaver, alright.
Well, maybe. You have any idea how many incarnations of her I've seen? At
least she's not pining after Tails or somesuch.
This actually doesn't feel as compressed as the other stories, though we
never really get to see what Sally and Sandra _did_ talk about. Again, it's
like you want to fit the story into a standard half-hour episode... if
you're considering rewrites, I think you know what needs fleshed out as well
as I do.

Summary:
Sonic and Tails return just as snow comes to Knothole. Sonic, Snively,
and Packbell each display their own version of cold, while Sally
learns that relations between her father's kingdom and the Federation
of Southern Mobius were a bit chilly.
Heh. Now _this_ is more like it. Decent and continnuing suspense, a plotline
which starts out very convoluted and makes full use of most of the traits of
the characters, a very nicely played Sandra Nightweaver... yeah, this is the
good stuff. Not much here I can suggest changing at all.
