CEC will be rather more curt and even more cranky than usual.
Exam time in RL. Feeling tired, grumpy and under siege does
not make a good frame of mind for c&cing stuff. I apologise
in advance for grouchiness and not being able to comment on
some of the longer fics released in the past week (I promise
I will get round to it in 2.5 weeks time.)

Tracks 1 and 2
by platypus3333 <platypus3333@yahoo.com>

Several interacting alternate realities, an idea which the author
has attributed to Peter David's Q-Squared. Very postmodern in its
conception and execution. A little hard to follow at times but
definitely worth your while. Also, it seems that line wrapping
has improved too, from previous platypus3333 releases. AND it's
promised that the site will become netscape accessible soon. Good
news indeed.

Home Part 24
by Cory Holmes <timh@intergate.bc.ca>

Another installment of the long-running 'Home' series. Err...
actually I can't remember 'The story so far...' so it was rather
hard to make out the significance of the events and character
behaviour. Archive URL included in series fics is always a good
thing. Also, the text format could really used paragraph breaks
to improve readibility - but that's just my own preference.

Oops, Asuka did it again, ch 2
by ravenm <ravemn0548@email.msn.com>

I thought Ch 1 was a filk so I sorta passed it by. Ch 2 depicts
Asuka as a teenage pop sensation who enlists with NERV to dodge
the taxman's retribution.

The idea itself is interesting though not totally original.
turk187 had one (huge) chapter of 'Neon Genesis Rock and Roll'
released last year where Shinji is a huge rock star and gets
recruited into NERV. Also, in comparison with NGR&R, the
execution of the 'pop idol' pilot idea in Oops looks rather
weak. The passage detailing the tax problems need more research
into actual tax regulations as suspension of disbelief just
snapped there. The press conference scene also needs more work
- delivery felt wooden, with information being rushed through.
The reporters seem like a single formless entity. Another gripe,
fic length - seemed more like a 3 passage scene rather than a
chapter. Hmmm... needs more work and fleshing out - essentially
show more, tell less.

Angel of Mine
by Jonathan Gaters <katarnx2b@netzero.net>

The author has labelled this a [Spamfic] - although it was rather
much longer and developed than 'Oops...' Technically, it also
wouldn't qualify as it's 13 kb - spamfics are usually under 10 kb.
But I'm just being pedantic. Also rum turns into gin in the first
scene. And was all that Japanese necessary?

Shinji comes home and finds a batch of Misato's cookies. He takes
it upon himself to distribute them to all and sundry. Hilarity
ensues - as they were pot/weed brownies. This device has also been
used before e.g. Joyce Wakabayashi's Urusai Asuka Parts 3-4. Still,
it's pretty damned funny! I particularly enjoyed the Rei scenes
where she's spinning with Gendou and the bit about painting the
town red. It's always the quiet ones. ;) Really funny - even though
it was in script, I won't hold it again the author. This time. ;)

The Gods Within Part 3
by Scriviner <ebon@i-manila.com.ph>

Lots of action. Super Shinji fights Angel, with the help of Flash
Asuka. Rei makes her appearance - totally unlike her anime persona.
The second scene didn't quite work for me though the final one did.
In the former, rather too authoritative?

Guesses at the web of alternate relationships here: The Doctor
(Ikari Yui) x Akagi Naoko; Kaji Ryouji x Akagi Ritsuko. I would
guess that Misato is Kaji's opposite number at Gehirn TacSec.
(Hmm... if NERV is in caps, then why is Gehirn just title caps?
it's not as if the former is an acronym or something.) Rei likes
Shinji but there maybe a love triangle forming here. That's always
fun in fics. ;) Perhaps more could be done with Dieter - minor
(author created) characters can inspire great reader loyalty, one
of the best examples being the Wandering Monster Table (a.ka.
Table-chan) in Stefan 'Twoflower' Gagne's Slayers Demiurge.

Enjoyed this installment of The Gods Within and looking forward
to more!

that's all folks!
