This was a very well written story, and a really interesting idea.  The 
mythology you included was a nice touch.

<<   "Hey, Wild Horse?" she asked.

     "Hm?"

     "When we get to the next village, will you marry me?" Her voice
carried a lilt in it as if she was trying to pretend the question was
just a joke, but couldn't quite pull it off.

     "No.">>

I liked how you used the translation "Wild Horse" for Ranma's name.  
"Violante" was a great idea for Akane's reincarnation.
