Okay, this is probably relevant to a few people onthe list, so I feel
justified in posting it.
As most of us should know, the character of Rei Ayanami in Evangelion is
presented as an almost impenetrable cipher. She doesn't actually
*do* much,
at least for the first parts of the series. When she does start to do stuff,
most of it is pretty passive, leading Asuka to call her a doll, as we see.
It's only later that she starts to show a proper personality of her own. If
it
*is* her own.
This does, of course, present a unique dilemma to fanfic writers. Exactly
how does one get inside the head of this character, to write her effectively
in a fanfic?
I myself am having a bit of a problem with this at the moment. In my
reading, I have found many authors who manage to write Rei quite well. I'd
love to hear from anyone who has some insights into writing Rei that they'd
like to share, and I'm sure this would be of interest to many writers of EVA
fanfics.
