Well, I hate to say it, but Akane's talking too much. With all that
scribbling she's doing, it's almost as if she has no communication
problems.
*Giggle* Then you've not been around a lot of deaf/mute people. They,
like everyone else, like to talk. About anything and everything. Just
because they cannot use their voices to communicate, doesnt' mean they
can't. Many "normal" people don't like to take the time to sit down and
"talk" with them because it's so tedious to write or to learn how to Sign.
But when people who can communicate with each other effectively (or aren't
bothered by writing), they talk as much as anyone else does. The secondary
title of "Curse of Silence" was "Time to Think." Ranma and Akane have to
take the extra time to write/read/talk to each other, giving them time to
think about what they want to say (For the most part). Ranma will still
stick his foot in his mouth, and Akane will still have her quick temper.
But both are happy communicating with each other for long periods of time.
I knew a deaf girl (okay, she was mostly deaf, but anyways) who, as a child
used to bug her other deaf/mute classmates during classes trying to sign to
them (she was very "talkative"). Her teacher finally threatened to put
mittens on her if she didnt' stop interrupting the class.
Akane is like everyone else, and is still a very social person. But her
social life is very, very different because she doesn't have to ability to
communicate with everyone in a "quick and easy" manner. Ranma doesn't seem
to mind all the reading, so Akane has someone she can talk to. And now she
has an outlet to say all the things she's wanted to say, all the things
she's thought about, all her feelings.
Deaf and mute people are no different. THey are also very social like the
rest of us, and will "talk" you into a corner if you sit down and start
communicating with them on a daily, friendly basis. Trust me :)
