It's late, about a quarter past 11 pm, so I'll
make this short.
Last night, a neighbor of mine who lived about
three blocks away was arrested and his apartment searched.
In his apartment was one of my debit card receipts from
the local grocery store, which had my entire debit card
number (though not the PIN number, thank the gods) printed
on it in full.
I'd known this guy. I'd even invited him over to
my house, twice, to spend an afternoon watching Ranma 1/2
and other anime with me. And he repays me by stealing
from me.
Court date is June 1. He still plans on leaving
Haxtun, but the police informed me that if he leaves the
state, or fails to show for court, it will be counted
as flight to avoid prosecution, and added to the charges.
The bank is currently working to restore my money,
altho there are several angry companies out there who are
going to get shafted thanks to this thief, as he doesn't
have the money to pay for what he's ordered, my bank doesn't
intend to pay, and they've already shipped. I feel for
them.
Monday I have to go to the bank and sign an official
statement that yes, I _did_ make _these_ charges with my
debit card, and NO, I did NOT make THOSE charges. Then I
get my money back.
I still had to cancel all my credit cards, just to be
safe. So my ISP may burp a few times as I've had to convert
over to paying in cash until my new card number is ready.
That's about the situation.
