Hm? Wasn't that the technique he learned on that island where he lost his
memory? Am I forgetting something? I don't remember Kuno ever training under
Happosai, either in the manga or in this series.

Actually he did in a episode of the series .  Said episode consisited of  Happi  sending Kuno on several mission into girls  dressing rooms to obtain ingredients he planted .  While Kuno fought off the girls Happi stole all thier underwear. When  Kuno got all the ingredients  Happi made a potion and gave it to him to drink. It was suppose to give him great power. Actually the experince of fighting the girls did   that. Long story short Kuno and Ranma fought and Kuno was actually winning when he suddenly got a stomachache  mid fight.... seems Happi made the potion from the dirt under his fingernails.

So yes Happi did train Kuno...just not that watermelon technique .
