Well I disagree. That _IS_ the point of the [ALT] Tag. I found the story
very good. Who's to say that since it's an alt Genma didn't teach him
better manners and less martial arts (HA!). Or just that he is a nicer
person in this alt-universe.

I agree. Basically, it goes against Ranma's psychological makeup. Ranma
is monumentally inscure due to the ten or so years of physical and
psychological abuse by his father. Ranma has to be the best at
everything and anything, because, he believes, if he is not, than not
only is he totally worthless as a person as his father has told him over
and over, but also it would totally invalidate the purpose of the
training trip that has fucked his life up. If he is no longer the best,
than why did he have to give up everything to be the best? If it was, in
fact, possible to achieve mastery of Anything-Goes without leaving
Japan, then there was no point to the training trip that took him from
his mother, all friends, and home and ended him up with a phobia of
cats, uncontrollably growing hair, the tendency to turn into a girl when
hit with cold water, and at least half a dozen fiancees. If anything,
losing to Akane would shatter Ranma entirely, leaving either totally
bitter towards everyone or self-hating to the point of suicide. It's an
interesting idea for a fic, and well written, but the bottom line is
that Ranma's reaction is totally out of character.

Hmm. Rather unconvincing plotline, I must admit.
Akane, better than Ranma, training at home? Very, very
hard to swallow. Even if she went on a same training
trip as he did, I doubt she would be as good as him;
she doesn't seem as talented.
The point here seems that if Akane was as good as
Ranma, they would get along very well. I must
disagree; if Ranma was beaten by a girl who lived a
relatively normal life (at least, compared to his
upbringing), then he probably would get frantic to
surpass her (skipping school, training day and night,
or even attempting to master Neko-ken); I can't see
him being friendly to her. If anything, fear or
hostility is much more likely.
Sorry for negative comments, but I really found
it unbelievable.
