Ryoko leaned against the tree and fidgeted, she
didn't know what was going on, but she knew it was her
father's idea. That alone made her nervous, but then
this training didn't sound like it was all that bad.
What could be so dangerous about fishcakes? Ryoko
squished that thought, her mother had been quite angry
when she had found them preparing for the training.
As a result, Ryoko was out here studying her english
while Mother "discussed" the matter with her Dad.
This was such a peaceful spot just the birds, wind,
trees, and what sounded like a lot of cats. She
blinked, and returned to her reading, must have
imagined that.
She was starting to get the hang of it. She could
certainly sympathize with the main character. She
wouldn't have liked to be dragged off from home and
sent on a life-threatening adventure either. It
certainly seemed like quite a reasonable situation to
have a panic attack and scream "lightning struck"*
over and over again. She'd never have signed that
contract, of course, she was born with one to honor
so that harldy mattered.
The mewing and yowling persisted though and finally
irritated her enough to go see where it was coming
from. The yowling and mewing sounded desperate and
tired, if numerous. Strangely enough she couldn't
find any cats as she walked along. Then she came to
the wooden doors of a storm shelter, well she assumed
it was a storm shelter.
"What's this doing way out here," she scratched her
head in confusion. Oddly enough the yowling seemed to
be coming from inside the shelter. "That sounds like
a LOT of cats down there."
She swallowed nervously, cats had claws, and teeth.
One might not be able to hurt a person, but again, it
sounded like there were a lot of cats down there.
Still it sounded like they're were scared and maybe
hungry. She couldn't just leave them down there, it
wouldn't be right.
Ryoko opened the wooden doors wide and looked into
hundreds of reflective eyes. She almost fainted dead
away, thinking. "They're not cats, its the spiders
from Mirkwood!!" When she passed out of the light she
relaxed, somewhat, they were obviously cats, but there
were still a lot of them, and they were hungry. Oddly
enough there seemed to be no way up or down.
"Who did this," she asked. "This is just NOT
honorable." It took her only a moment to come up with
an idea. "Uh, wait here."
"...doing that AGAIN!" she caught the tail end of
the shout as she entered the house. Ryoko nervously
cleared her throat and waited for her mother to turn
towards her. "Ryoko, dear, I thought you were to go
do homework or katas."
"Well, I was wondering," she started nervously.
"If we're not going to do the fishcake technique..."
"Most definitely NOT!" her mother insisted, aghast.
"Well could I have the fishcakes then," Ryoko
asked. "I think I found someone who can use them."
"That's very good, dear," Nodoka agreed. "Take the
temptation out of his reach." Ryoko bowed and left
quickly, then found a wheelbarrow, filled it with the
fishcakes, grabbed a ladder and left. Several minutes
later, after she assumed everything had calmed down
she returned home.
"Ryoko," Nodoka asked as she came in. "Where did
that animal come from?"
"Oh him," Ryoko laughed nervously as she looked at
the grey cat following her and picked it up. "There
was the pit full of hungry cats, so I fed them and let
them out. He followed me home."
"I see," Nodoka glared at a chagrined Genma.
   "I was wondering if..."
"You may keep him if you want. We don't want such
a lovely animal being so mistreated again...do we?"
"YATTA! Thank you Mother!" she turned to her
father. "Isn't it great Dad?" The cat hissed at
Genma.
"Yes, a pet would be good practice in
responsibility," Genma adlibbed under his wife's
glare.
"That's funny," Ryoko said looking at her cat.
"He likes everybody else."
