"Students, I want to remind you that your
performances need to be ready for the beginning of
next week," the teacher declared to the class. "I'm
going to give you the last half-hour here to go over
your plan with your groups."
Ryoko sweatdropped as the various students began to
congregrate into their respective groups to plan and
practice. Ryoko didn't notice the teacher turning her
way until it was too late.
"Miss Saotome," the teacher said. "I believe you
should be with your group."
"I uh..." Ryoko giggled nervously. "Don't have a
group." The teacher face faulted.
"This project was assigned two weeks ago!" the
teacher said. "What have you been doing all that
time?"
"Well I was sort of hoping that..." she smiled and
looked away. "Someone would invite me to their
group."
"Why didn't you ask to join one," the teacher
asked.
"Uh..." she was terrified of them saying "no," but
that was hardly an appropriate response.
"Never mind," the teacher sighed. "I suppose you
can do your own performance, katas like the talent
contest I suppose."
*flashback*
"Hey Karate Girl, are you going to do some Karate
on me?"
*flash*
"Those were cool moves last night, so how'd you
fake them?"
*flash*
"I thought you were some sort of kung fu expert!"
*flash*
"Did you notice you forgot to change out of your
school uniform?" This came along with a memory of
deep heat in her cheeks.
*return to present*
"Miss Saotome?" the teacher slashed her hands in
front of Ryoko's face. The girl continued staring
wide-eyed into space for full second before blinking.
"Are you okay?"
"I didn't ask for this," Ryoko sighed. Then
suddenly she brightened. "That could work."
Ryoko opened the door and closed it quietly behind
her. Then cheerfully stepped inside after slipping
her shoes off. She passed by the living room and
paused to bow respectfully to her mother.
"Hello, Ryoko-dear," Nadoka said sweetly. "How was
school."
"It was okay, we're giving performances on Monday,"
she said cheerfully. "I'm going to practice now."
"Then I assume your on you'll be doing katas then?"
"Nope," Ryoko smiled and ran in the direction of
her room. Genma appeared and scratched his head.
"If she's not going to do katas," the old man said.
"What is she going to do?"
"I haven't the faintest idea," Nadoka responded.
Then Ryoko returned bouncing back, holding a thin
paper bound book under her arm.
"This is what I'm doing," she held up the book to
her parents, who face faulted. "Something wrong?"
"Uh, you'll need privacy to practice," Nadoka said
springing up.
"Yes, you must bend your full concentration on this
task," Genma agreed. "So you're mother and I will be
leaving for the evening then."
"Go ahead and order take out, dear," Nadoka added.
"Just borrow the money from my purse, have fun."
Ryoko sweatdropped as her parents exited the house to
leave her with her practice.
"Myah?" She looked down at her cat.
"Hmm, I guess they're right," she shrugged. "But
you'll stay to listen won't you Genki?"
"rrrrr," the cat rubbed against her legs, and
crawled up into her lap as she sat down and opened up
the book, to begin practicing. Then the cat was
rocketing into another room.
"Hmm, must have seen a mouse," Ryoko shrugged.
"No..I can't go out there," Ryoko insisted. "I'm
not ready!"
"You have to go now Ryoko," the teacher insisted.
"There's nobody left, and if you don't go you won't
get a grade."
"You can't make me go out in front of all those
people!"
"Do you want to disappoint your parents?" Ryoko
dropped down from the rafter, landing lightly on the
tips of her toes.
"No," she said reluctantly, and gathered herself
before walking onto the stage. The teacher had never
mentioned they'd be doing this in front of an
audience. She glanced at her parents, and smiled
nervously. Her mother nodded in support as Ryoko
walked up to the microphone.
"Are you ready?" she asked her husband.
"What?"
"Can I have an answer?"
"Huh?"
"Never mind, Genma." The bald man shrugged.
Meanwhile Ryoko took the microphone, took a deep
breath, and gave her performance. As she finished she
looked about at the shocked and pale audience. As she
walked off her teacher stared at. The woman's hair
was on end and she seemed pale.
"I thought you weren't going to do anything martial
arts related this time," the teacher managed to get
out. Ryoko sweatdropped.
"I didn't," she said, nervous.
"Really, umm what was that then?"
"Singing?" Ryoko asked, suddenly unsure.
*Note: so this may seem closer to Akane, but I swear
everytime Ranma is called to sing, outside of credits
and such, that it is rather hideous...so I just
imagined that little flaw carried over to his sister.*
