Book Zero, Chapter 1
[The Scene: A quiet, dark room, somewhere. dominating the picture is a large television. Various news clips and dialogue flicker past:]
[A withered old man in white robes with gold trim drones on in a long drawl, facing a massive crowd of devotees
" In the begining there was man, an animal who thought himself a God. In man's arrogance, he was punished by two great Impacts, which shattered the world and scattered man. And so, in the dawn of the third Millenia of God, did man languish in darkness, yeah, and gnash his teeth. Then Yui Ikari, who so loved the world, gave her own soul to God, to light man's way home to Heaven. Now shalt we prepare our own way to meet her."
