Actually, it ISN'T customary. And I hope it doesn't stick, too. We've all got enough spam as it is. Introduce yourself when you actually release anything or do some C&C .

I've got several fic's in the works right now (mostly... all right-all Ranma ones) and I'll probably try sending them some time in the future... (And I would appreciate not having my house targeted for the next nuclear test after some of you read these fics... ;)

I suggest building a few Protectors, then. (okay, I'm a TA fan :) )
Anyway, if you are writing Ranma fics, bear in mind that there are plenty of them already and unless your fics have something original/interesting , they're probably going to be lost in the midst of all those fics people wait months to read (is Careful Destiny 5 coming out this century yet? :) ).

I have a suggestion too. From one fellow author to another. Get some pre-readers before releasing stuff. Or at least pass your fic through a spell-checker. Mistakes appear in the least expected places, as my own pre-readers can attest to.
