I have a few problems with birthright.

1) I don't think they would be rivals I think that this would push them
further apart. Ranma's pride

2) Ranma would REALLY ate his father. If Akane could be as good, or better,
as he is -being dojo trained- the training trip would be absolutely
worthless. Accept it ruined his life:
2a) he lost his mother for 10 years
2b) lost ten years of schooling (canon never shows Ranma hating school,
only mild protest)

Strictly speaking, he didn't. It's hard to say how many years of school he lost but since
he did go to school with Ryoga, clearly Genma didn't _totally_ neglect Ranma's schooling.

2c) the trauma of cat fist would be magnified as being very unnecessary
2d) the extra fiances (He would only have Akane if he trained at home.)

The extra fiancees are unlikely to be a problem. Shampoo will be a problem for _Akane_,
not Ranma since Akane will beat her and will have her trying to kill Akane for the rest of
the series. Ukyo will go away once defeated. Kodachi won't go away, but he didn't meet
her on the road.

2e) he would not have lost his precious manhood, being cursed, and many
other problems
I think this would then transfer to Akane. He suffered and was denied so
much for the art. For him to see Akane best him and she did not have any of
the hardships would make him resent her for getting off easy

Well presumably Soun took her to the Cave of Knives, the Training Ground of Inutterable
Doom, and the Mansion of Lost Souls... They just went home afterward.

3) I believe an important part to the story is that Akane is inferior in her
skills. If she is equal to Ranma that would make her superior to Shampoo or
Ukyo. This right there cause a problem. Ranma loves Akane NOT for her
skills, but for who she is. Shampoo and Ukyo are better in feminine skills
(cooking, sewing...) and in the martial arts. This allowed the reader of
the manga to see that he fell in love with her, not with what she can do.

I can see love arising out of fierce rivalry almost as easily as the actual pattern of
Ranma protecting Akane when she's in danger, and Akane succouring Ranma when he's down and
out. But...on the whole I'm not that interested in this story as it is going right now,
simply because there doesn't seem to be enough "spark" between the two of them. I would
say that their rivalry isn't fierce enough to be interesting.
