As I read this, I had the same reaction when I played karaoke and the

So...that's a bad thing?

Sorry about that. The full version is below

Review:
As I read this, I had the same reaction when I played karaoke and the
background visuals for the song was a soft-porn short movie and I was
going "wha?", "what?!?, ""Eyng?","WHAAAAAAT !?!?!" as the song
played and the scantily clad girl did things totally unrelated things to the
song I was singing.

That means...WHAAAATTTT? Really, I don't get it. People are saying
it's a Evangelion/WWII thing, but I just don't see it. Kinda like the
Evangelion
look-alike I'm watching right now that's set in the 1970s ( Well, the
commander looks like Gendou, except he does a heroic pose more often).

Anyway, pretty good writing, but I'm still confused.

On the whole I don't consider Evangelion to be the ideal target for
original flavour fanfiction. Because it is high profile it attracts a
lot of fanfic but the tight continuity and predetermined ending don't
give you much flex room. As a result, the best Evangelion fanfic has
been satirical except for COEAG which is a fusion, and pretty radically
divergent in it's own right. Even if I wanted to keep Evangelion
continuity or satirise it, I am not equipped to do so since I've only
seen a couple of videos and a graphic novel. So...why not chuck it
entirely since I don't like Anno's plot or philosophies anyway? Just
use the giant biocybernetic thingies, the wimpy "I don't wanna fight"
hero, the apparently unfeeling father figure, the hard drinking sexy
babe with a heart of gold and the rest of the orphan squad...

This is one of those rare occasions where one of those idea posts
actually sprouts something. Somebody proposed putting Evangelions in
World War II and it caused quite a lot of discussion, so much so that it
was eventually banned even though the moderator regime was much looser
then.

Then I read a comment from a Japanese source that they were surprised
that Americans liked Evangelion so much since in some ways it could be
considered the story of a Japanese-German alliance to take over the
world...

..and I read a magazine article about Kishin Heidan, and was thinking
that it was pretty wishful thinking on the part of the film makers that
the Japanese, if they had giant robots, would have high mindedly
reserved them to fight the evil aliens unlike the "less scrupulous"
Germans, and that the German giant robot actually looked pretty darn
cool in a SS chic sort of way unlike the geeky Japanese robots...

...and I figured, why not write the only kind of Evangelion fic I'm
qualified to write, one that requires more research into World War II
than into Evangelion itself? After all, I'm never going to write that
fic where Nabiki finds a time tunnel back to World War II and falls in
love with a guy there (while hauling back her chocolate bars and silk
stockings for sale on the black market) because the plot synopsis was
just nauseatingly maudlin. I wouldn't want the time I spent reading up
on Pacific War history to go entirely to waste.

PS: Any members of the Church of Nabiki looking for a weepy plot?
