Crystal to Blossoms
Prelude to Chaos
Japan: 1578
Duncan had been travelling over Japan for almost a decade now. This
last stop was one in many at Temples and Dojos. At each he learned
styles and sword forms. He also learned much about the culture.
This last shrine was to be his last before heading back to his homeland. As
he walked down the long stone path to the shrine
he felt a presence behind him. He turned to see a robed figure
running at him with a drawn sword. With a practiced motion he
brought his sword out from its sheath. The flash of metal
and the ring of steel was all the sound that Duncan heard. Then
The ring of steel silenced. Duncan fell back to see what had
happened. his opponent now held a Shinai and was in a
guard position he recognized as one he had been taught by
Connor to him. His oppenent charged again and a flury of
blows were exchanged between them. Then his opponent began to
get sloppy, adding flourishes between strikes, switches of hand
mid-parry. What amazed Duncan was that the Shinai was holding up
against his steel as well as it was. Then the Shinai vanished as well.
His opponent now was taping the side of his blade away from them.
Both fighters seemed to tire suddenly. Duncan decided it was now or
never with a burst of speed he sent a thrust toward his opponent's belly.
This was met by a crash as his blade distagreated into slivers
of metal. Duncan looked at the robed figure with wonder.
At this the robed figure bowed toward Duncan. Not half bad at japanese
customs he bowed lower than the figure did but not much.
At this the figure spoke.
"You may call me Masakari, Duncan McCleod"
"How do you know my name?"
"I know many things. One of such your name. Another your immortality."
In all of his travels Duncan had found no one but sages and immortals
knew about them.
"You are not immortal." he stated
"Ah but I am." Masakari countered.
"What about the quickening?" Duncan replied.
"Not all seen is what is true."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"See with you senses not your eyes."
With that the quickening came. Duncan whirled to find the source and
saw that the figure was now in the direction of the 'warning'.
"How?" Duncan asked.
"When one is as good as me one learns a trick or two."
"Quite a trick."
"Duncan, perhaps you may of heard as me. Ever hear of an immortal
refered to as Sword Breaker?"
Duncan had in his travels met and heard of many immortals. Sword
Breaker was one of the legends amoung immortals.
"You are Sword Breaker?"
"Well that is one name I am called." Masakari replied.
"Now I believe you wanted to visit the temple along this path."
Thus the two walked up the path to the temple.
