They used rifles and revolvers in Kenshin so it's not farfetched guns
to be
used in the war with the Musk. The reason why swords were used more
often
was because they were more easily available. Plus, as an assassin, a
sword
would be a better weapon because it's silent as oppose to the noisy
gun
while a gun would be more appropriate for an execution cause it's so
easily
concealable. A person who uses a gun to assassinate a person isn't
expected
to get away. Besides, considering the martial arts that exist in
Ranma and
Ruronin Kenshin, guns in the hands of foot soldiers isn't something
that
they need to worry about.
I said guns and other modern means would not be the main weapons used in
Ruroni Ranma, I didn't say they'd be absent.
This would prove especially true if Genma
taught
Ranma the Saotome Forbidden techniques before he died. The
combination of
the Hiten Mitsurugi w/ the Umisenken would probably make him
unbeatable
especially at night. Suddenly appearing in the midst of the enemy
then
slashing with his batojitsu would leave the enemy no chance to
retaliate.
With the Yamasenken, Ranma could exchange chi blades in their fight
with
each other. Don't limit yourself to pure Hiten Mitsurugi. Combine
more
Anything-Goes with Hiten Mitsurugi. This is a fusion, not an xover,
after
all.
My thoughts exactly, Ranma will be using both Hiten Mitsurugi and
Anything Goes style. I haven't gotten a real chance to show this yet.
Ranma hasn't had any real problems with anyone he's met so far. [As far
as skill levels go anyway.]
A good excuse for the more frequent use of blades over guns in the
Musk war,
is that the difficult terrain made resupply night impossible for
some places
so bayonets and swords were often issued. Plus, w/ the existence of
Jusenkyo
nearby, Chinese supply depots were probably frequently sabotaged,
limiting
the number of useable guns. A small animal carrying a timebomb into
an enemy
camp was probably a common occurrence there. The only thing that the
Musk
can't sabotage would be the Chinese air superiority. Course, the
mountainous
region would make bombing runs difficult since they would have to
fly close
to the ground to deliver many of their ordinances. The Chinese don't
have as
many of technological weapons that the US have. The use of nukes
would also
be impossible because of international pressure and the lack of a
defined
target.
You make some good points here, I just might use some of that later on.
It'll be a little while before we see Ranma's past though, I've got lots
of time to think it over.
As deadly as they are, nukes are terror weapons that can
only be
used on cities to justify their long term effects. Plus, the Chinese
government would see the use of nukes as a sign of weakness on their
part,
showing that they can't pacify a rebellion without destroying what
they were
trying to save. They would avoid nukes to save face.
I agree with this, I had been thinking along those lines from the
beginning. I don't see any real reason to change it, the Chinese would be
reluctant to use nuclear weapons in their own country I think. One reason
why Herb got so far, after he got going the regieon he held was too large
to use Nukes against him. They would have had to destroy quite a bit of
China to weed him out that way. Footsoldiers would be a far more
practical way to fight him IMHO.
I'll probably write another chapter to this and then move on to other
fics for a while. I like it, but I don't want to push everything aside
for it. [Like I already have.]
Ja ne!
