Well, Kirin was only after the person who held the other half of the scroll.
Toma kidnapped ALL the women from the ship and he only noticed Akane when
she hit him(I sense a recurring theme in this series. Perhaps R. Takahashi
is
a bit of a sadist at heart?).
Takahashi had nothing to do with Kirin or Toma. Both of those characters were
only in the movies -- never in the manga.
