*** So it appears the the possibility of Hiko teaching the Hiten
Mitsurugi Ryu to someone else isn't so far-fetched... Granted, this
is the anime series - I have no idea whether this storyline happened
in the manga.
It doesn't. It comes from filler anime episodes, which I personally
consider slightly less canon than really bad fanfiction. :p
Still, it shows how easy it is to provide a simple little backstory for
someone else to have learned the Hiten Mitsurgi Ryu. Other possiblities are
just as easy. A former student fought a previous master for the right to
the title, student gets apparently fatally wounded, falls over a waterfall
(into river, into raging house fire, etc, etc, ) Only to have survived and
taught the techniques to another student later. Former master tried
teaching son, who learned the techniques but couldn't beat his father, but
dad couldn't bring himself to finish off the son. Son leaves to teach his
own version of the school in the hopes that one day a student of his will
defeat the next student of his father, or another inheritor of the school.
Just have to put a little imagination into it.
Please. Don't get me started on the filler anime episodes. They should
have stuck to the manga and quit after the Kyoto arc.
One of these days I'll have to see the series beyond the eighth episode.
