	The Overmind felt a new presence. In a new corner of the galaxy, it had found a small planet with an interesting race. Using the burgeoning psionic force at its disposal, it scanned the fuzzy ball of life for anything interesting, which is to say, anything worth taking. With the last of the Cerebrates focused through the Overmind, it let the impressions of six billion separate souls flow around into its being.

	Two souls interested it. One had the power and fury to give birth to a new race of Zerg. The other was possessed of a subtle beauty so powerful even the ferocity of the Zerg quelled a bit under its might. To find a potential cerebrate and a prototype on one planet was pure luck. Homing in on the beautiful presence, the Overmind steered several broods toward that planet, toward Earth.

	Several weeks later, three cerebrates landed in an uninhabited part of Siberia. The massive slushy crash was unheard by all except for a few wolves. Daggoth, Zasz and Garm Called upon their hordes of minions to slowly haul their distended, sluglike bodies to more convenient locations. As a small nation known as "Nippon" was their target, they assumed positions conducive to their efforts, and were only forced to kill seventeen witnesses in the process. Daggoth took up residence on Sakhalin peninsula, waiting as backup, should any problems arise. Zasz and Garm actually found their way into Nippon. Garm made a base in a cave near the target, while Zasz was decided to go penetrate the area of intention.

	With careful caution, the Zasz Brood grew in the woods just outside Nerima.

	"Hruuuuaahhhh...." A hydralisk growled softly.

	Hearing the call through the moist earth that separated them, another grunted a reply. It had been two days since the group of eight hydralisks and ten zerglings had embedded themselves in the "park." Because of its location between the first target's nest and her trade community, it was decided that the group would lie in wait until she passed by. A lone lurker in the squad would let them know when to emerge, as the others had no way of telling who was walking above their heads.

	Just then, a hydralisk began to make a strange sound with its mouth. It was a sort of a hum, and it followed a pattern of tones. Since they had only heard of music before, the other Zerg were at a loss to explain this behavior. Slowly, however, they all began to join in, letting the soothing feeling that flowed over them take hold. The lurker, being the most intelligent in the bunch, soon realized that this must be the influence of their appointed target.

	With a bloodcurdling gurgle, the lurker leapt from its hiding place, quickly followed by the rest. The Terran creature before them dropped its possessions and brought one of its upper appendages to its mouth.

	"Oh, my."

	It simply gathered its belongings and continued humming the same tune all the hydralisks were. Giving the attackers a look that managed to be pleasant, even through massive cultural barriers, it continued on its way.

	The lurker blinked as a drop of liquid formed at the back of its head. Ignoring this physiological impossibility, its mind centered instead on the Terran's lack of fear. It must be very powerful. Zasz, sensing the lurker's concern, channeled itself through the lurker, establishing a telepathic link to the Terran. In the span of a few seconds, Zasz was able to gather massive amounts of cultural information from the creature's mind. Apparently, it was a "female," and would be considered attractive by Terran standards. The concept of being attractive was slightly harder to grasp. Soon, Zasz had a firm enough connection to project simple concepts, given the female's huge latent psionic power.

	<Zerg. Become strong. Terran female. Accompany. Peace or force. Unimportant.>

	"Oh, my," she repeated, looking around.

	Apparently the use of concepts was confusing to her. Zasz tried again, this time slightly more coherent.

	<You. Go with Zerg. Forced if necessary.>

	She thought for a moment before responding, out loud, "That's all right. I'd be happy to visit you. I just have to finish my shopping first."

	All the Zerg facefaulted, including Zasz. This last was impressive, considering that Zasz was a giant slug attached to the ground.

	"I've gone off to visit the Zerg, so I made dinner ahead of time. I'll be home as soon as I can manage," Ranma read aloud.

	Akane blinked loudly, trying to make sense of the message. Of course, this kind of thing happened often around Nerima, but never to Kasumi.

	"Um, should we look for her or somethin'?" Ranma asked, genuinely concerned, "And what's this 'Zerg' thing?"

	"How should I know?" Akane replied, "I guess we ought to tell the others."

	Ranma thought for a moment. "Yeah, you're right. She'll be fine. 'Sprobly just some friend anyway. She'll be fine."

	"This place certainly could use some tidying," the female now known to be called Kasumi Tendo commented upon entering Zasz's hive.

While her words were foreign, her meaning was clear. The concept of cleanliness was similar to that of purity, and she was implying that Zasz's home, as it were, lacked it. While Zasz might have taken offense normally, Kasumi's burgeoning sweetness prohibited any argument on Zasz's part.

<Kasumi.>

"Oh!" Kasumi said with a start, "You must be the one who I talked to before."

<Truth. Is Cerebrate of Zerg. Called Zasz. Must converse.>

"I see. Now, what exactly is a Zerg?"

<Is race of life. Pure in essence. To include all is purity. Will include Kasumi.>

"Oh," She stood silently for a moment before answering, "Can I see what you look like, Mr. Zasz?"

<..... Truth. Self at center of hive. Follow zergling.>

Spying the vaguely raptor-like creature that leapt out of an adjoining corridor, Kasumi began to smile. "Isn't he cute..."

A drop of fluid formed on Zasz.

When she finally reached the center of the hive, Kasumi was almost taken aback by the pulsating mass of nerves that was Zasz.

"I'm sure you're a very handsome Zerg, Mr. Zasz."

<"Handsome" is unknown.>

"It means that you look nice."

<Appearance no consequence.>

"You Zerg certainly are a funny bunch."

<"Funny" is unknown.>

"Oh dear," she sighed, trying to think of how to explain funny. Zasz probed into her thoughts and was able to fish the definition from within her. Given the widening of her eyes, she apparently felt Zasz do it.

<Strong mind. Have felt Zasz in.>

"You connected to me?"

<Truth.>

"Wow..." she trailed off.

<?>

"When you connected to me, I suddenly knew about the Zerg," she stated, "Why?"

<Very strong mind. Must become Zerg.>

"Excuse me, Mr. Zasz," she said calmly, "Do you think you could speak in Japanese?"

<... Can get from mind. Kasumi open.>

"Alright."

After a few moments of touching of minds, Zasz knew Japanese.

"Is this more to your liking?" Zasz asked, communicating with sound for the first time.

Kasumi smiled at Zasz, making it feel warm all over. "Yes. Thank you very much."

"I must ask something of you."

"Yes?"

"You must become Zerg, Kasumi."

Kasumi's smile faded. "What do you mean, Mr. Zasz?"

"We shall change you, make you better. Make ourselves better."

Kasumi was still confused.

"To use a word from your mind, 'infest.'"

"Oh, dear. That doesn't sound good at all."

Zasz sighed, somehow. "Please?"

Kasumi thought for several minutes before answering, "Only because you asked so nicely."

Again, Zasz facefaulted.
