I was thinking about all of the cyberpunk treatments of anime series
like Ranma and Sailor Moon, and I was wondering, has anyone attempted to
do the opposite? As in, take a futuristic/cyberpunk story and rewrite
it as, say, a steampunk/classic sf story?
Actually, there were at least a couple. A year and a half ago, Matthew
Harrison wrote "Breath-Expanded-Cherry-Flavoured-Chewable-Strip Crisis!",
a brief BGC-Discworld fusion. Also, in May of 1997, "JT" (sw@eyrie.org)
posted a tiny, untitled teaser which backdated the Sabers into a Lord
Dunsany-style Victorian England with magic.
