It seems that some people aren't reading the FAQ quite closely enough. If
they were, they might have spotted this under the "DON'T BEAT A DEAD HORSE
SECTION" (e.g. Things You Shouldn't Post):
*- Complaints about certain types or genres of fanfiction, e.g.
*'Why do so many fics feature Ranma' (or Sailor Moon, etc.)
*Everyone has different tastes, and if you don't like a
*particular type of story, the best thing to do is simply to
*look for something else to read.
General slams of any kind of fanfic (be it Ranma fanfics, darkfics, or
character studies) are simply not helpful. As the FAQ says, people have
different tastes. This list has around 2000 members, all of whom
undoubtedly have a wide range of opinion on what is and isn't good fanfic.
Generalist arguments about whether some sorts are inherently better than
others are pointless and silly at best, and lead to bad feelings and
flamewars at the worst.
To sum up, C&C on _specific fanfics_ is good; I personally wish we saw more
of it on the list than we do. General slams of certain types or genres of
fanfiction, on the other hand, are bad, and if people keep on posting them
despite the warning against it in the FAQ, we may have to start banning
more than the threads they start.
