The Book of Angels
Prologue
The Sandraline palace is most widely known for its
massive library. Their long, dustless hallways are filled
with books that would make a scholar weep with joy. In this
ancient royal library of Sandraline, a book about the country's
history could be found. As you open the book, the worn and
faded yellowed leaves fall open exactly to the most intriguing
era, the Era of Darkness. From here, this story begins to
unfold.
Five angels hovered over the land: two black, two white,
and a silver winged angel. They were the legendary protectors
of Sandraline; the deities of Beasts, Life, Death, Destruction,
and Justice.
The Angel of Beasts controlled all the animals, and
killed off the soldiers of Nuklaren, the enemies of Sandraline.
He maintained his control over the animals with his life force
since most of his magic was used up. The other four Angels
headed towards the north. The Angel of Life spared him one
last glance before he left, following the other Angels. Beast
felt a strong energy fill him, life energy. It sustained him,
kept him from dying--as long as Life still lived.
The other four celestial beings were about to face
their true enemy. They headed towards the capital of Nuklaren,
Dajah. As they approached, they found a swarm of unearthly
entities surrounding an obscure shadow. He was the darkness
that covered this world, the center of evil. He was none
other but the Angel of Darkness.
Thunder could be heard in a distance. The wind howled
in anger as the Angel of Death prepared himself to face their
toughest challenge, a fight to the finish. Destruction left
chaos in his wake. The rivers flooded; volcanoes erupted,
burying towns and people under ash and lava; earthquakes
tore the land into pieces. Justice burned with malice in his
eyes. All living and dead, burst into flames as he passed,
sending them all to hell after a quick judgment. Life hung
behind his comrades, eyes filled with pain as he watched
one being after another lose its life, condemned and the
innocent.
They flew towards their objective, the last battle,
hoping to prevail, to rid this world of the darkness. The
Angel of Darkness was waiting for their arrival, for the final
battle. A dense fog surrounded him and his minions as the
Sandraline defenders made their way towards him. Black energy
gathered at his fingertips as he waited for the fight to begin.
Darkness watched as the Sandraline protectors charged at him
with fury burning in their eyes. When his targets were in range,
he fired.
Life went down as the blast of energy went through his
heart. Death, Destruction, and Justice could feel their
friend’s power slowly pouring out of him, taking Beast with him.
Nothing was left of the two but dust that danced away with the
wind. The remaining three fought with anger, to avenge for
their friends.
Death summoned the ghosts and zombies. Hailstones
fell from the sky. Thunder boomed, covering the screams of
fury. Lightning laced through the black sky. Destruction
created greater earthquakes. Mountains exploded and rivers
overflowed with muddy water. A tornado headed towards Darkness.
Justice summoned fires deep from the earth, burning all those
that lived.
"Do you three think that you could possibly defeat
me?" Darkness snarled at them. "Without the other two, your
powers have greatly diminished. Nothing could stop me and
Nuklaren from take over the world now." He let out an evil
laugh that was lost in the sounds of thunder. He flung black
fire, laced with energy, at the last three Angels.
The Sandraline holy protectors screamed in pain. The
last of their energy was drained out of them, as was their
lives. They used the last of their energies to retaliate.
"We're not going alone," Death gave Darkness a psychotic grin
that sent chills down the dark shadow’s spine. "You're coming
with us."
With that, lightning, fire, and the tornado hit him at
once. The force of the three attacks sent him reeling into
darkness. As the tornado carried him off, the three holy forms
breathed their last. All that remained were the dust and
feathers that were once their bodies. The world plunged into
darkness as the saviors died, all for naught as the evil that
threatened mankind still lived.
At the base of Mount Janal, Darkness got to his feet.
He wavered at the first few steps. "Damn you. They have not
heard the last from Angel of Darkness, yet. I'll be back.
Now that the Angels are out of the way, I'll have the world.
After I'm completely healed, I'll get my revenge." With that
he hobbled off into a cave of the mountain. He sealed the
entrance, and was not heard from for a hundred years.
